Tied by Fate
Siobhan has a loving family, a dear best friend, and a respectable job as the town’s community representative. However, she's just going through the motions of a life. She hasn't really lived since the O'Brien triplets, Davin, Hughe, and Jameson, left Port Lapton years ago. They were the end of her thread, but they rejected her. Now they are back. Can the past be forgiven, can they have a future together? I love this world that Lyn has created. This is a stand-alone book, but it is the second Thread-Maker book. If you read the first one, there are reappearing characters as well as the villager's history. There were so many special touches to this story; I could go on and on. I can't get enough of the Port.
Bound to Be (Thread Runner #1)
by Lyn Forester *****REVIEW
Bound to Be is easily one of my favorite books this year. Malachi has secretly been in love with his best friend Aiden since their school days. Aiden is currently with their other best friend Fiona, and Mal feels that he no longer belongs in their shared apartment. It hurts enough working with them in their co-owned art studio. Aiden is the brilliant artist, Mal is the art manager, and Fiona handles sales and commissions. Fiona makes an appointment for Mal to visit the Thread Reader, a religious fortune teller who leads you to your soul mate. The Thread Reader verifies that Mal and Aiden are meant to be together, but for his own well-being Mal has to find a way to distance himself. He loves his friends, he doesn't want to interfere with their happiness, it just hurts him too much to be near Aiden and not be with him. As a fortuitous opportunity puts Aiden and Mal together even closer and Mal struggles even more, Aiden has an unexpected reaction. Everything changes; at once their lives become so natural and so complicated. Will the three best friends be able to make things work out or will they pay in the next life?
This book is well written. It's a glimpse into the lives of three best friends and their love for one another. It all takes place over a few short weeks, but it is a time packed with change. Decisions will be made, their future determined and lives forever altered. There is risk. But more than anything this is a story of love, of friendship, and romance. There is M/F and M/M. It is hot, hot! It runs the gamut of human emotion where love is involved; jealousy, fear of rejection, hurt, loneliness, hope, joy, elation. It's so well written, that you will also experience these emotions along with the characters. It's an emotional journey.
There is no way my review can do this book justice, because I refuse to add the necessary details. Everyone deserves the pleasure of reading this book for the first time. I will say that the world building is exceptional. Port Lapton is a small, coastal town. The citizens all seem to know each other and are very open and accepting of others. There is a general air of kindness and caring. They follow an ancient religion which includes the Travelers, Thread Readers, and the Soul Minder. Loved the stories. There are ancient rituals associated with the Thread Reader; not only affecting this life, but influenced by past, and shaping future lives. The characters are remarkable. The full cast of characters was incomparable from Sean and Hamilton in the studio to the Conolly sisters playing music; from Jameson to Darcy and Mr Burke; even Boris. They all added a richness to the story. Aiden is a a complex artist; sometimes tortured, often ecstatic. He is completely gripped by his muses. He is selfish, but loving, consumed, and passionate. Fiona is sweet, a force in the business. She's a good, loving woman, and although it may be unfair, she was my least favorite character. She inserted herself into this life and seemed a threat to Mal's happiness, and for me the book revolved around Malachi. "My Angel". Once in a while you come across a fictional character, that is just more. They are beyond special. That's Malachi for me. His love is endless. His needs are nothing compared to what he thinks his loved ones need or want. He is caring, faithful, passionate, considerate. He's pure beauty inside and out. His pain was so real, yet he would do nothing that might possibly hurt Aiden. Aiden was his strength and weakness; his very reason. To live for love and be willing to deny yourself is extraordinary.
I can't recommend this book enough. It left me with a warm afterglow. I will carry these characters with me.

Just Not You (Tails x Horns #2)
by Lyn Forester *****REVIEW
Taro Yoshida has stopped living a full life. He dedicates himself completely to the students that he counsels but he no longer allows himself to dream of a future with his own mate, a future full of happiness. He doesn't deserve his own HEA. He won't allow himself to become attached to anyone and he has three rules to keep his lovers at arm's length: He doesn't sleep with anyone he works with, He doesn't sleep with anyone who is a regular at his best friend, Miki's bar, and He doesn't sleep with anyone who lives in his apartment complex. Taro doesn't do second dates or morning afters. He's defensive and prickly. Ryuu breaks every rule that Taro has in place and he won't take no for an answer. Ryuu recognizes how special they can be to one another. He finds Taro's grumpiness adorable, he won't be pushed away. He is determined to convince Taro to trust him, to give their relationship a chance. But as Taro falls for Ryuu there's more at risk than their emotions. Accepting each other as mates could be a deadly decision for one of them.
Just Not You, the second book from the Tails x Horns series is a heartfelt, frustrating, tension-filled love story. Ultimately rewarding. Set in the world where children are born sexless until their first transition and then at 18 they transition again into Horned or Tailed. This is a fantastic world where love seems to know no bounds. It's the perfect backdrop for a relationship between these wonderful men, one with such complexity, such fear. At first glance, Taro just seems difficult but as you learn his history, really get to know him you understand how deeply he cares, how protective he is and just how terrified he is of someone he cares about getting hurt. He's making mistakes but he's doing what he feels is best for others. Ryuu is the perfect balance for him. His determination to win Taro over, his pure acceptance of Taro is beautiful. Together they are perfect. And together, they are hot!!
I cannot get enough of this world (I've said that before about Lyn Forester's worlds). I appreciated the inclusion of Masa and Sota, two of my favorite all-time characters even if it did make me a tiny bit worried about them. It's impossible not to become permanently invested in these men. Having said that I demand that there be a book for Miki. My heart went out to him. His loneliness needs to end! This book, this series is everything I could ask for. The characters, the story, the overriding love all make for a significant read.

You to Me (Tails x Horns #1)
by Lyn Forester *****REVIEW
Sota and Masa, next door neighbors, classmates, best friends. Born hours apart they have gone through everything together but the biggest change of all is coming. At 18 you transition and on the hour of your birth, you grow a tail or horns. Classes change, friends change, mates start to search for one another. Sota and Mesa planned to stay together when each grows a tail but fate intervened. For the first time ever they will be separated if only in class. Neither plans to allow the separation in school to come between their closeness. However, the girls have their sites set on Mesa and a violent bully wants to claim Sota as his own. Is their best friend status at risk, will they drift apart or become even more important to one another?
This is an amazing coming of age story. There are authors that you know you can depend on to fill certain reading desires you may have. You know who to go to if you want a strong heroine or an action-packed story, sexy times or teenage angst. When you pick up a book by Lyn Forester you know that you are going to be transported into another world. Her world building skills are exceptional. The layering, the attention to detail, the subtle nuances she adds change the everyday world we live in into an original creation all her own. But what I have also come to realize is that she is extraordinary at portraying M/M relationships. I first fell in love with her men of Port Lapton, Malachi and Aiden. In House of Glass Declan and Felix are so good together I have concerns for the female of the RH. Now in You to Me, I have found a new young couple to love, Masa and Sota. Masa is the ideal. He's loving, protective, accepting, indulging. Sota is an adorable, sarcastic goof unaware of how cute he is. The two together are a delight. Best friends that know each other, as well as they, know themselves, hidden feelings, new love, lasting love, forever love. Simply perfect. The boy's relationship is a nice balance of sweet and sexy. There's a lot of personal inner thoughts and conversation between the boys and the sexy times are highly enjoyable. Had the book only had these two characters I would have loved it but even the side characters in this book are perfect. The lovely parents; the awkward, unfiltered un-transitioned classmate; the not-so-bad mean girl, the nasty bully, the counselor all fill their role thoroughly.
This book has one other special message that should be mentioned. This is a world where gender and sex are not static, where they don't seem to be slotted into a particular role, and they are not judged. Even the worry over tails and horns seems to be normal teenage angst and not attached to any preconceived stigmas. People are people, love is love. I can't tell you how refreshing that is! On a more superficial note, the new cover is way more eye-catching than the original cover. This book is a true gem.

Riley grew up in a nightmare. Her mother was mentally and physically abusive. Her stepfather was a monster. She was never shown any affection, never taken cared of; instead, she was used as a cook and maid and told how ugly, stupid, and worthless she was. She was the mistake, the one who ruined their lives. When her 17th birthday turned into a crime scene the state found her birth father and sent her to live with him. Mark and his wife Leanne, along with their son Jaxon and his girlfriend Cassie and best friend Caleb welcome her into their home and their lives. It's not so easy for Riley to settle in and accept what they are offering. Scarred from her past Riley stutters, jumps at every raised voice, startles when approached, and panics when touched. She assumes that she is unwanted, a burden and that they will eventually hurt her and kick her out. She doesn't sleep and when she does she has memory induced nightmares. She's a broken, little girl and despite her family's attempts at understanding, she can't bring herself to relax and trust them. Caleb seems to understand. His gentleness, his thoughtfulness, his kind words and actions get through to Riley. She feels safe with Caleb. She learns to trust Caleb. He is the beginning. Riley starts to allow herself to believe that she can have the kind of family she read about in her books. Maybe she's not a burden but truly wanted. For the first time in her life, she has moments of joy and freedom. Just as she's opening up to her new family, just as she's starting to feel something for Caleb, unusual occurrences start happening around Riley. She's not who she thought she was, she's something more. She has magic but so does her new family and they are with her during this confusing time. Riley has their total support even when she turns out to be more than they ever expected placing her in danger. Now the future depends on Riley. She will have to trust her family and their love completely if she's to save them all.
Wow! This is an amazing book! Riley is an incredible character; so authentic. The neglect, physical abuse, and especially the mental torture she suffered was portrayed in brutal nightmares. Her resulting PTSD was well-written. I work with Survivors. Every action, every reaction was genuine. I loved that we knew her inner thoughts. It gave each scene more impact. From the first page, I wanted to gather her up in my arms and hold her. Her mother's words to her broke my heart. They were so much worse than her stepfather's cruelty. So much more damaging. The day-to-day abuse was overwhelming. Riley's strength is unmatched. Just to still be standing is an accomplishment. Riley might be scared, timid, have no expectations or self-worth but she's not bitter or mean. She's damaged but not ruined. She's with the right people to lead her out of desperation. Her family was refreshing; a stepmother who opened her heart immediately; a father who showed vulnerability, guilt, and helplessness but immediately claimed her and offered his love and protection; and Jaxon who assumed the role of protector, jokester, brother from the first moment. Cassie was pure sweetness. Thank you for not making her the typical mean-girl! I loved her energetic, lightheartedness. And Caleb (swoon). Male perfection. His love, his understanding, his constant presence offering comfort and security were all exactly right for Riley. Spending time with these characters was a pleasure made even better by an entertaining paranormal story.
I will be honest, this book caught me a little by surprise. I expected to enjoy it having read a short story by Amanda Perry before. I didn't expect to love it like I did. I fell in love with the characters. I was drawn in from page one and read it in one sitting. Now I'm eagerly awaiting the next book.

Lone Wolf (Westervelt Wolves #8)
by Rebecca Royce *****REVIEW
There has never been a more fitting end to a series....EVER! Honestly, I could end my review with just these 12 words, but such a wonderful book, such a great series deserves more. Gabriel Kane has always known that he is worthless outside of battle, he's stupid. His father burned this knowledge into him since he could walk. Only one person ever made him feel worthy in his life, his mate, Carrie. But now she's gone and no one remembers that she ever existed except for Gabriel. To keep her alive, he made a deal with the devil, his father; he has been betraying his family for forty years. But now he's had enough. His brothers are safe, mated, happy. He's going to end the threat against the pack and kill his father. He may die, but he's nothing anyway. Carrie has lived with the enemy for 40 years. She's been under the control of Kendrick Kane and his mate Drea, but she hasn't given in. She's strong enough to save Gabriel from the choice he made years ago. She has to save her mate. Life is meaningless for her without him and if she can't save him the Pack will be lost.

by Rebecca Royce ****REVIEW
Rex Kane has always been the odd brother. He doesn't look like the others as a human or a wolf; his loyalty has been questioned time and time again. Rex himself feels that his soul has a darkness; that he's unworthy. He's out of chances with the pack. The Alpha, his brother Tristan has sent him to find a witch and to bring her back to seal off the island. Rex hates witches, but he won't allow himself to fail. Even though the pack may question his loyalty nothing means more to him than his family and his pack. Elizabeth is a slave. Her mother, once the coven leader lost the pack to an evil witch who cursed Liz. She was stripped of her magic and given to the new leader's twin daughters to serve them. She was also cursed to look so hideous that no one can bear to even look at her. She has now lived for years lonely and abused. Until Rex follows the witch's scent into the same diner his sister Angel and her mate escaped from. His wolf instantly recognizes her as his mate. But he hates witches! And Liz hates wolves! It can never work. Yet, he sees the real Liz, not the cursed face the rest of the world sees. And Liz sees Rex and the honorable, loyal man who just wants to be loved. It's impossible to deny the mating magic.

Alpha Wolf is the continuing saga of the Westervelt Wolf Pack. Michael Kane has been sent to New Orleans to find his sister. He misses her, however, he does find his mate. Scarlett Knoll is a damaged latent wolf. She doesn't have the ability to shift and has been abused; verbally, emotionally, and sexually, by her pack her entire life for being a lesser wolf. She is timid and scared. She feels that she's a coward, but in reality, she's a true survivor. Michael realizes quickly that he will have to be careful with his new mate. He also realizes that her Pack must be dealt with. They have never been taught how a pack should function properly and that needs to change for the humans and their wolves.
This is another entertaining book in this series. While the war is still on-going between the Westervelt Pack and their former Alpha, it was nice to take a bit of a break. This book was quite a departure from the others but still fits in the overall story nicely. Michael is such a strong, honorable man and Scarlett is precious. It was lovely to see how love and kindness changed her.
Each book of this series is individually good on its own and as part of the set. The characters are all wonderful and the action is entertaining. However, my favorite part in each book is the relationship between the human and their wolf. This never fails to amuse me. Their conversations are priceless and each so unique. I can't wait to see how this trend continues.

Wolf's Magic (Westervelt Wolves #4)
by Rebecca Royce ****REVIEW
Wolf’s Magic returns us to the Westervelt Pack; this time for Azriel's story. Azriel is a scientist. He likes dealing with facts, solving problems in his lab. He does not like magic, he does not really understand people. He feels like he is the most useless brother in his family. His own father tried to kill him for the first time when he was only two; what value could he possibly offer to his family or the pack. He doesn't realize his true worth. Leah St. James has no memory, she has no idea who she is other than her name. All she knows is that she's trapped in a wolf's body inside a cage in Azriel's lab. She doesn't know Az, other than he is kind to her. She appears to be one of Kendrick's 'made' wolves. Az is trying to save her, to understand why this she-wolf is so important to him. It takes a lethal attack on his lab and a comment by his brother to realize that the little she-wolf is his mate. Now it's imperative not only that he saves her life, but that he frees her from being trapped as a wolf.
The Westervelt Wolf Pack is home to wonderful, wonderful characters. These two are no exception. Azriel turns out to not only be brilliant, but to have magic. He has such self-disgust and insecurity, but he's so loving, kind, thoughtful, and self-sacrificing. His relationship with his wolf is fairly hysterical. He may be socially awkward, but you would never know when he speaks to Leah. His words are beautiful and poetic. He's magical in more than one way. Leah is creative, intelligent, fearless, and resilient. I love that she embraces her wolf and this new life with such gusto. She immediately sets about making certain that Az learns his own worth and he is determined to step outside of his own mind in order to be the man she needs. These two are good together. They compliment each other's intelligence, they are funny, and of course, they are sexy. She saves him, he saves her, they bond, he saves her, she saves him. All in the average day of a Westervelt!
Once again Kendrick proves that he is a top-notch bad guy. This guy is a powerful opponent. He is always a step ahead of the Pack and he is deadly. This time though, because of Azriel's toughness and intelligence, the Pack may finally be on better footing. His strength as the villian, his purely evil spirit makes this story so good. The Westervelt Pack is full of such incredible people, full of so much love. The two sides are the perfect examples of good and bad. Makes for a fun, intense fight. I can't wait to see which brother or sister gets the next story!

Wolf Reborn (Westervelt Wolves #3)
Faith grew up in the foster system never realizing that the images she had of people turning into wolves were anything more than the hallucinations everyone insisted they were. Between the beatings and the belief that she is crazy, she blocked all memory of her childhood. Everything changed the day that Faith rescued Summer and the Alpha commanded Summer to change forms. To everyone's shock Faith changed forms with the Alpha command as well. She is one of the lost Westervelt females. Six months later she has moved to the Island and has taken over security, once the job of Prince Theo. Theo has gone wolf. After saving his nephew from the demon attack, Theo barely survived and is now a different man. He's scarred and half mad; he believes he is a danger to the pack, so he lives alone in the wold as a wolf. While patrolling the Island someone starts shooting at Theo. He dives over the falls to escape and is pulled out of the water by Faith. Their wolves instantly recognize each other as mate. Now these two must work together to rid Theo of the demon influence and find the danger on the Island.
This is another great book in the Westervelt Wolves series. There continues to be the ongoing danger from the pack's former Alpha, Kendrick. He may be a madman, but he is still a deadly threat; his plans are well planned, well executed, and deadly. Each book he seems to outdo himself with his evil plotting. This time he runs up against the formidable team of Faith and Theo. They are equally strategic and are fighting for one another and their future. I love the Royal family and the women they are falling in love with! Faith is smart and strong, but she has such a fear of rejection and abandonment that it has made her wolf a bit neurotic. The dynamic within her is awesome. All of the Westervelt men are strong and caring, but Theo may be the most sacrificing one of them all. He would rather give up his own life than take any chance of hurting the pack. He is selfless. I loved how once he met Faith, he stopped caring about any physical damage the demon left him with. His words were a beautiful testament of love. Thier easy acceptance of their mating, their bonding, and the depth of their love was a nice touch. It put the focus squarely on the true enemy where it must be if they were to survive the demon and the madman.
This book has several fascinating revelations. The characters we met and grew to love in the first two books all return (as family should) and the story continues on as the pack grows and strengthens. I can't wait to see which brother features in the next book!

Summer's Wolf (Westervelt Wolves #2) by Rebecca Royce ****REVIEW
Summer's Wolf returns the reader to the Westervelt Wolf pack. This time the story is about Summer, Ashlee's younger sister. We met her briefly in book one. Free-spirited, fiery, and beautiful, yet completely overwhelmed as she was shockingly introduced to the shifter world with the life and death crisis her sister was involved in. She also had her formidable mate thrust upon her. Too much for her to deal with, she quit school and decided to pursue a singing career. From the start, you know you love this girl! But now it's three years later and she's not the same girl she once was. When she comes home she discovers a family tragedy and danger. There's also the mate who has been waiting for her, Cullen Murphy. Cullen promised her mother he would give her time, space, but he's been lonely and lost without her. When she re-enters his world, he's more lost than ever. Immediately faced with danger the two must act together to save themselves and the pack.
I can't decide who I love more in these books, the Morrison sisters or the Westervelt men. Cullen is known as the boogeyman in the pack. As the enforcer, he's considered dangerous and intimidating, but they really don't know the man. He's been hurt over the years with the deadly duties piled upon him. He's accepted his role, but doesn't revel in it. My heart hurt for him. I ended up loveing him more than I ever thought I would. Summer is also different than expected. Appearances are deceiving. She may look like an angel, but she's tough and a bit mean. I was glad that she resolved her issues with Cullen and with Ashleigh in a timely manner. She's not meant to be so moody. She's definitely well suited for Cullen. Together they heal each other's pain and give the other strength. I love when she calls him my Cullen and gets all protective about him!
This is a short, enjoyable read. I love the love being found during the ongoing war. I can't wait to se more of the royal family find love and to track down their lost sibling!

Her Wolf (Westervelt Wolves #1)
Ashlee lives at home recovering from a recent nervous breakdown. Now she has a secret. She hears voices; well one male voice and it seems to be coming from a wolf at the zoo she works for. It's clear that she's lost her mind. Unless she hasn't. A dream convinces her that her wolf is actually a man and he is in mortal danger. She rushes to the zoo to save him and her life is forever changed. Prince Tristan of the Royal Westervelt family has been trapped in his wolf form and locked up in the zoo. Now he's being rescued by his mate! Family secrets are revealed and Ashlee agrees to go back to the pack island with Tristan to get to know him, the pack, and find out more about herself. Once there the two quickly grow closer, but once the bond is made, a pack curse threatens to destroy them and the pack. Tristan is only strong enough to resist the curse long enough for Ashlee to survive, but it will be up to Ashlee to save them all. Together, Tristan and Ashlee are the hope of the pack.
I really enjoyed this book. Tristan and Ashlee are the perfect couple. It's insta-love with the bond, but it works. It's believable, sweet, and their attraction for each other is hot. The love shared before the curse is brief, but deep. Ashlee is fantastic. She starts out uncertain, but quickly becomes a kick-ass wolf. She's brave, clever, and caring. I loved the connection she shared with her new brothers. Tristan's struggle is heartbreaking. He shows remarkable strength at times. I especially loved the inner dialogue each human had with their wolf. The pairing and individuality of the human/wolf dynamic was a great touch. The rest of the royal family, Ashlee's feisty little sister, and Tristan's father and his coming war all add to the storyline and will provide many stories to come. I look forward to continuing with the Westervelt Wolves.

(Sur)real (Judgement of the Six #6)
by Melissa Haag ****REVIEW
We've reached the end. The last Judgement, Olivia has been located and is joining her sisters. It's time for the Judgements to make their decision. Who will it be in favor of? Humans, werewolves or Urbat? The sisters, their mates, and the Elders are all heading for the final showdown with Blake and his Urbats. A call for werewolves willing to make a final stand has gone out. Even humans are turning up in the desert. Another life form is involved and they are desperately eager for the battle, hoping that a decision won't be reached, that the world will burn, will fall and that they can swoop in and take over. The time is now. The Lady will have her say.
This book was good but not as good as I had hoped it would be. Maybe I was asking too much. The series has been so entertaining, tying up the ending was always going to be an impossible feat. I felt like it went a little off course with the Others. The focus went away from the wonderful characters that made me love the series and settled on these other life forms. Olivia was such a closed-off character that she was hard to relate to. It was brilliant to tie her to one of the most beloved guys in the series. It went a long way towards softening her. I didn't feel that the sister's powers were fully used in the end. Charlene, Isabelle, and even Gabby didn't use their gifts as expected. My biggest disappointment was the lack of couple time. I wanted more Luke and Bethi, Michelle and Emmit, Isabelle and Carlos, Thomas and Charlene, and especially more Clay and Gabby. They have always been my favorites and I wanted more time with them and closure of sorts.
I was satisfied with the outcome even with the Lady's warning. I love that the final message was love and the ultimate sacrifice for love wins the day. Greed, self-interest, hatred are all powerful but love the most powerful. I look forward to the possibility of a future, but I really would like a follow-up with Gabby and Clay. Please!

The story of Melissa and Emmitt. We meet the second of the special girls in this book. Melissa's gift is premonition and she's been held captive and used for this gift for years with her two young brothers being held as threats to keep her in line . When the chance comes to escape, she runs with them and soon meets our werewolf Emmitt. He knows immediately that they share the bond, but he's stubborn. He needs Michelle near and safe, but he's been fighting his path for so long that he can't just accept what's meant to be. Throw in some added danger along with their attraction for each other and you know he is going to lose the battle here. They are meant to be together. The journey to each other is so sweet. Once again Melissa has created great main characters and a love story you get caught up in.
I loved the side characters in this book. Emmitt's brother Jim and his relationship with Melissa's brothers Liam and Aden is my personal favorite. Jim is such a big kid himself; he's adorable. And Nana's surprising fierceness, while unexpected is awesome. Each step deeper into the world of these werewolves gets better and better. I loved this book and can't wait to pick up the next.
Hope(less) (Judgement of the Six #1)
Gabby and Clay are both lonely, lost souls. She avoids contact because her strange attractiveness to males has left her afraid of relationships in general. Clay has lived a loner's life and has fooled himself into believing it's what he wants. Until they meet. The bond is immediate, but neither is truly prepared for the other. The way Clay puts himself on the line to keep Gabby safe proves his worth as a mate, but the lengths Clay goes to in order to be a part of Gabby's life are extraordinary. That's what really won me over. He is special.
Melissa is a really good writer. The story is entertaining, but the characters make it a great read. She injects humor, passion, and good conversations into the story. Gabby and Clay are so believable and lovable. You get swept up in their story. I can't wait to read the next one. Turns out I must like werewolves after all.

I put off reading this series for months even though Amazon recommended it to me every time I opened my Kindle. Finally, I gave in and immediately learned how foolish I had been. I thought I didn't like werewolves; I thought this book had nothing to interest me. Instead I discovered that Melissa Haag could easily become one of my favorite writers. She has created a wonderful world of mystery here. Not one type of werewolf, but two. And a human that is more than she appears, one that has a magnetic attraction and can see others locations in her mind's eye.Gabby and Clay are both lonely, lost souls. Carlos' Peace (Judgement of the Six Companion Series #5) by Melissa Haag****STAR REVIEW
No one does companion novels like Melissa Haag. She is the master. She takes the story we are already familiar with, but makes it fresh with the new POV. The different main character view is surprisingly original each time. It shows great storytelling skill to retell a story to the same audience and keep it from being stale. Never has she allowed the reader to feel cheated. Instead I look forward to the male side to see how well it matches up or counter's the original female side. Plus, there are always new details that enhance the original story and further the plot. Melissa is just a very entertaining story-teller!
Carlos' Peace gave me a new level of love for Carlos, the big brooding man/wolf. He was always so serious and intense. I had a hard time connecting with him. Being allowed to know his thoughts and his feelings and to learn of his backstory and link, I have a new, deep appreciation for him. I also found a new layer added to my frustration of Isabelle. The distance she kept from him and the pain she caused him didn't endear her to me. By the end however, as she softened to Carlos, I grew to accept her as well. There's no denying that these two were made for one another.
This is a well written, fast paced retelling of the Judgement books. The Epilogue set up the final book perfectly. The suspense is there. Can't wait until Olivia joins the girls and we reach the final judgement!!

Thomas' Heart (Judgement of the Six Companion Series #4) by Melissa Haag ****STAR REVIEW
Thomas's Heart is the companion novel to (Un)bidden, the fourth of the Judgements of Six series. Read the original books first before the companions because not only do they change the POV, but they usually go one step further to developing the series as a whole. Plus, it's just more fun in that order. It's written from Thomas’ perspective of the story that took place in (Un)bidden. Perspective is a funny thing. Thomas and even Mary think Charlene is such a fragile human. I have always seen her as a tough chick and this story only reinforced that.
I love all of the characters in this series, but I admit that Thomas and Charlene rank at the bottom. This book really bumped up my love for Thomas. He has much more depth than I imagined. Thomas is strong and stubborn with a hatred of humans. He is headstrong and sure of himself until Charlene rocks his world. He changes his every belief to be with her. She makes him stronger, more caring, wiser. He would have been a good leader without her; with her he is great. He's right; he is the backbone, she is the heart of the pack. Together they give the pack a chance at a future. Charlene changes the course for the future of all packs with her compassion and plans, and we know she is the first of the "sisters", but I'm still not her biggest fan. I admit she's strong, smart, and compassionate, but I can't connect to her like the others. Finally, I loved the relationship between Thomas and Grey. It's easy to see that they rubbed off on Thomas's sons. He added the right amount of humor to the book.
These companion series are so worth the read. They make a good series even better, adding depth and new details each time.

Luke's Dream (Judgement of the Six Companion Series #3) by Melissa Haag ****STAR REVIEW
Luke’s Dream is the companion to Unwise; the 3rd book in the companion series to her Judgement of Six series. Melissa has done a great job with these companion books. They follow the original storyline, but the different POV refreshes the story instead of making it feel repetitive, and they are so eye-opening. This shows such skill.
I loved getting into Luke's thought process. He so much desires a mate of his own, but Bethi is not what he was expecting in any way. When he meets Bethi, she is in such a fragile, vulnerable state. She may have unseen strength, but her pain and suffering are all that's obvious at first glance. His immediate desire to protect her and make her happy made me love him in the original book. In this one seeing his feelings of helplessness to relieve her suffering, his feelings of betrayal at her claiming of another, and his want and frustration because of his desire to treat her with respect all made me love him even more. Throw in his incredible hotness, his sense of humor, and his accent and he's nearly perfect. The only one for Bethi.
My only complaint was the ending. I wanted more. It felt a little rushed, but still, this book was a perfect companion book to Unwise.

Emmitt's Treasure (Judgement of the Six Companion Series #2) by Melissa Haag *****STAR REVIEW
I love a second POV book. There's nothing like a good love story and getting to see it through the eyes of the man is great fun. However too many times it's just a re-telling of the original story. Not so with Melissa Haag. She manages to tell a story that would be every bit as good as a stand-alone from the POV of the other lead character but manages to make it original at the same time. I believe that she is the very best at writing companion books. Clay's Hope was very enjoyable and Emmitt's Treasure is as well.
Emmitt is a dream come true. The cover of this book is worth a second look, to begin with, this man is yummy. He's good-looking, kind, thoughtful, protective, and patient. Not only is he willing to take your young brothers with you as a package deal, but he's excited about having the young cubs. And this book proves that more than a werewolf, he is a man, easily sidetracked by his want and need for Michelle. The fact that he can be so patient and stay so focused on her needs while he is so dazzled by her is impressive. Talk about the perfect man! Altogether a great read as a companion book.

Clay's Hope (Judgement of the Six Companion Series #1) by Melissa Haag ****STAR REVIEW
I had to read this as soon as it was released. I love the story of Clay and Gabby. Clay is my favorite werewolf and I couldn't wait to see their love story through his eyes. I was not disappointed. He's smart, funny, brave, loving. Everything you want in a man. The fact that he had to prove this to Gabby in the form of a dog was a great twist. There's nothing too new in this story, but it was worth it to get his take on everything. After being on his own, isolated, and more than a little wild for most of his life; fitting into the human world in a relationship gave him plenty to deal with. Loved joining him through the changes in his life. Seeing him fall in love and win Gabby's trust and love through his eyes was so endearing and made me love him even more. I hope that we get more of the male's stories in the future.

This was the book needed to end the series on a high note. Everyone gets to play a role and are all together for the finale, but there is a returned focus on Lexi and Austin. So we come full circle in a way. The danger to the Pack's very existence is a real threat; one that becomes more personal as the plot is revealed. But it never feels forced. The danger to Lexi, both physical and emotional is one that every female can relate to. This is the ultimate love story. This family has so much love that it has spilled over into every life that they have touched. I love that even the side characters found "their one". You can't help but hope that it all works out in the end and that no one dies before happily ever after is reached. I'm so glad I finally broke down and started Book One because this series wasn't about Shifters, it was about a family. I love the Weston Pack, it's history, it's members, and the love and loyalty they share with one another. I love that each book inserted more and more humor into the writing. The kitten left me laughing several times in this one. Now I am interested to see if the next generation will get their own series. I can see Melody and Lakota together, Lennon and Hendrix having alpha struggles, and Travis becoming a force to be reckoned with. Really enjoyed this series!

This is the story that I was waiting for. It seemed inevitable that there would be more to add on to the story of Maizy and Denver. There has never been a better Watchdog than Denver. Maizy grew up in a world foreign to humans, full of danger. Yet she was loved, coddled, and protected every second by this incredible man. He showed more depth during her childhood than many men reveal in their entire lifetime. He allowed her to become an amazing woman. She had to fall in love with him. But like so many they managed to make their relationship much more complicated than it should have been, When new options are presented and unforeseen dangers threaten lives, it seems like they might miss their chance at a future together. Very entertaining book.
Three Hours (Seven #5)

This book was the biggest surprise of the series for me. Wheeler has been a tough character to get to know. So standoffish, gruff, rude, even mean at times, yet fiercely loyal to his brothers. And somehow more likable than his charming twin. Naya is a bit too hardened, yet she's the one to break through so we get to know Wheeler. His backstory is so revealing and his complicated personality now makes sense. And boy is he wonderful! His loyalty to those he loves knows no bounds, he gives everything of himself even when it's not in his best interest. He has a sexiness, a sense of humor, and a generosity of spirit that was hidden until the walls were lowered. For me this book was all about Wheeler and that made it so entertaining.
Four Days (Seven #4)
by Dannika Dark ***STAR REVIEW
While still entertaining, this was my least favorite book of the series. Ivy is too restrained and Lorenzo Church is too arrogant. He never warms up to the Weston pack and that keeps me from warming up to him.Together they are too reserved. I did like getting to know Ivy's back story. I did like getting to know Ivy's back story. It was obvious that there was a past of pain and I like that she turned into a woman of grace and strength instead of a broken, bitter woman. I also loved the overlapping with another Dannika Dark series with the secret of her past. Still, these two don't rank with the other characters in my eyes.
Five Weeks (Seven #3)

The story of Izzy and Jericho is wonderful. Both are damaged, both have made mistakes, yet when together, both are electric. Both have insane charisma, both have trust issues, and they have a past that makes a future hard to envision. Yet they are like magnets drawn together and their chemistry is explosive. And to find out that our hardened, womanizing rocker has a romantic side, made Jericho so much more likable. Izzy joins a long line of Dannika's strong women. She is a force to be reckoned with and a beauty inside and out. A good addition to the series.
Six Months (Seven #2)
by Dannika Dark ****STAR REVIEW
I became a big fan of Reno Cole during this book. He's not the typical hero. Sure he's got the great looks shared by all of the Cole men, but he's not terribly nice, has a lowered opinion of humans, and a bit rough around the edges. He is the perfect second in command. He's a brilliant tactical soldier, has no regard for the well-being of anyone outside of his pack, and ruthless. And yet he is taken down by a soft human female when he falls in love. I loved the irony. It echoes real life to me; when we think we have a plan to follow, something always throws us for a loop. No matter how developed the plan, no matter how much we try to maintain control, we need to be shown that we are not always in charge, especially when it comes to our hearts. I loved seeing a vulnerable, caring Reno. I love that we get to see his true strength by finding his weakness.
Seven Years (Seven #1)
by Dannika Dark *****STAR REVIEW
First off, I am NOT a fan of Shifters in general. I have put off reading this series for so long because of that fact. I made a mistake. I truly enjoyed this book. I love the two main characters, Lexi and Austin. Their love is epic, their journey for happiness is complicated. There is passion, danger, bad decisions are made, but strength, intelligence, and love overcome. There are enjoyable side characters. This is a formula that works for me every time if the story is original and the author can write. This is true. Dannika can create sympathetic, real characters that real you in. Once you fall in love with them, she weaves a story around them that is an entertaining ride. I mentioned that I don't like Shifters, but these were somewhat unique. The fact that the human shares the body with the animal and not in control (even has no memory) when the shift is made intrigued me. It adds a new dimension that is partly a complete release and partly a complete danger. I loved the outcome and hope that as the series continues we get to see continued growth between this Packmaster and his Female Alpha.
