Changing On The Fly (Red Li... Changing On The Fly (Red Line                            Series Book 2) by
TB Mann   ****REVIEW

Kayla has been in love three times; once with her teenage best friends, Kris and Ryan and later with her sister's doctor, Adam. Kris and Ryan disappeared overnight from her life with no word leaving her with a broken heart. Adam helped her piece it back together but then her father tore her away from him. She hasn't seen any of the men in years. Now a tragedy has brought her back into their lives. Kris and Ryan are professional hockey players whose lives are completely intermingled and suddenly forever changed. They need help and when Kayla arrives, they know that she is the answer. They never wanted to let her go and now that they have a second chance they are determined not to lose her again. Coincidentally, her reunion with Kris and Ryan also brings her back in contact with Adam. Adam has never gotten over Kayla's disappearance and also desperately wants her. All three men are talking forever but Kayla is torn. She loves all three and it feels that she's being torn in different directions. Does she choose a family with Kris and Ryan or forever with Adam? Her heart says she needs all three.
Everyone knows that I love Reverse Harem. I love all sub-genres of RH but have a particular love for contemporary. I believe that it's the most difficult sub-genre to make believable but when it works, there's nothing better! Changing On The Fly works. The characters are well-thought out, their love for one another and chemistry are undeniable, and the circumstances realistic. My only complaint is the separation period. It doesn't make sense to me from the guy's standpoint. Kris and Ryan could have reached out anytime after leaving. They each had siblings in contact with Kayla and knew her father. Adam seemed resourceful enough to track her down as well. I understand Kayla's initial hurt and insecurity and then when she did try to see them, it ended up hurting her more. I am totally Team Kayla and am not as forgiving with the guys as she is. Their excuses just weren't good enough. That combined with the tabloids would have left me more insecure and less trusting than Kayla. However, this ultimately does not matter. They end up where they are supposed to be when all is said and done. It may not have worked anyway if they hadn't had the period apart.
The characters are fantastic. Kayla is a beautiful, caring, confident woman. Her compassion is her standout feature. Ryan is headstrong, impetuous, and sometimes foolish but he is adorable. His overall good-natured lightheartedness won me over. Kris is more serious and harder on himself but his love of family is everything. And Adam is pretty perfect. He is brilliant, understanding, unselfish to a fault, and his love for Kayla never faltered. Ava is easily a favorite. I love this adorable addition. RH is a fantasy. It fulfills every wish, every desire. These relationships were handled to perfection in my opinion. Kris and Ryan love one another but Kayla comes first. Adam is willing to do anything to make Kayla happy. Ava plays a central role but never overshadows. The villains of the story serve their purpose of strengthening the relationships and family and friends support them. Well done!
This story is realistic and genuine. It's moving and allows for so many emotions throughout. I loved the hockey backdrop. I confess to not knowing too much about this particular sport but I love the sports world. Training, pre-season, games, WAGS, crowd energy, and groupies are all things I am familiar with and they were captured nicely. As were the hospital scenes with the tension and the family atmosphere of the NICU. Everything combined to make this story seem believable.
Then that final scene...first, I loved the reason behind the scene, the setting, etc but the conversation between Brad and Stephen has me wanting the next book NOW! What a tease. I can't wait.

Good Witch, Bad Witch: An A...  Good Witch, Bad Witch: An Ariel                 Kimber Short Story by
Mary Martel   ****REVIEW

Ariel Kimber's life has not been full of fun and games in the past. Instead, it was full of neglect and abuse. But that has all changed. She's happy and safe with her coven, her seven boyfriends. Since she's never celebrated a Halloween, this year Quinton is determined to make it the perfect Halloween, not only for her but for his brothers as well. Ariel's not the only one with a difficult past. The perfect costume, handing out candy, and a midnight ceremony all make for the perfect holiday.
This Halloween short is like a mixed bag of candy, something for everyone. I loved the childlike glee of the holiday mixed with the sexiness later in the evening. A big dose of Quinton, the Salt and Pepper twins, and Dash with a touch of the others. I love Quinton! Overbearing man that he is, his heart is in the right place. And the heat that comes from this man, WOW! Nice little glimpse into the twins as well. In an RH we always think about the pressure on the girl to balance the guys, but this shows the insecurity guys feel. I liked the insight. I still feel that Dash gets too much time in comparison to the others but that could just be me wanting more Jules and Damien. I can't wait to see what Quinton has in store for Christmas!

Black as Midnight (Ariel Ki... Black as Midnight (Ariel Kimber #5)

               by Mary Martel   *****REVIEW

Ariel may have found happiness with her coven, a home, and a newly found father but her life is still complicated. She has caught the Council's attention and the coven is in danger from Hunters. But with her father, Marcus, and a few new characters, Ariel and her coven are not witches to be taken lightly.

From the first paragraph of the first book, this series has captured my love and it just keeps getting better. So well-written, so entertaining. This book has it all. There's suspense, intrigue, and danger. There is plenty of love and some seriously sexy times. WOW! The coven makes a large harem and we are getting to know each of the men better. Relationships are advancing. The best part; they are advancing naturally; each relationship is moving forward at its own rate. Ariel's relationships with her dad and Marcus are precious. Every little girl dreams of being daddy's little girl, even if daddy is psychotic. Her ability to bring these two men to their knees is perfect. The two new additions are interesting. I look forward to seeing where this leads. And Ariel herself has changed quite a bit. Her power is growing, she is growing. She's figuring things out, figuring who she is, what she wants, and what means most to her. Her insecurity and vulnerability moved me. The doubts she has about herself, the guys make her so much more relatable. They also make me very protective of her character.

Obviously, I love the characters and the romance but the storyline is outstanding too. It's a roller coaster ride at times. Hunters, conniving female witches, and the creepy Council are all legitimate threats. The mystery surrounding new witches is provoking. Keeping Rain hidden and Marcus safe with the growing interest in Ariel is going to be problematic too. It feels like we are building towards something major. I can't wait!

Tyson: An Ariel Kimber Novella Tyson: An Ariel Kimber Novella

              (Ariel Kimber #4.5) by
Mary Martel   ****REVIEW

Tyson's family means everything to him. Not necessarily his birth family but his chosen family, his coven. The coven of seven witches including himself are his brothers and he is the one responsible for breaking them. He is the one who brought Annabell into the coven allowing her evil touch and selfishness damage their bond. He is the one to blame but he will never allow anyone to hurt them again. So when a beautiful witch pulls the coven into her dream and later moves next door, he is determined to protect his heart and his brothers. Impossible. Ariel changes their world forever. She's everything they could ever want but is Tyson going to ruin everything again?
I needed this book. The insight into Tyson is wonderful. I loved Tyon from the beginning but in the last book, I admit I lost patience with him. His secrets, his unwarranted guilt, basically his self-pity were ruining his character for me. This book took the reader straight into the mind and heart of Tyson. And the boy gets stuck in his head way too often! He gets in his own way, takes too much responsibility for things he has no control over, and doesn't share enough of what he's thinking but his intentions are always good. He loves deeply and only wants the best for those he loves. He's great about blaming himself for the bad but doesn't give himself credit for the good. And there's so much good. He's thoughtful, protective, loving. I love his grand purchase, his initial reason behind it, and his hopes for the future. Tyson grew up in this book and stepped out of his uncle's huge shadow. He is becoming the man his coven and Ariel need.

The Ties That Bind (An Arie... The Ties That Bind (Ariel Kimber #4)

                      by Mary Martel   ****REVIEW
Ariel's life has been complicated over the last few months. She finds out her abusive mother, who was killed by one of her boyfriends, wasn't actually her mother at all. She and another of her boyfriends were attacked and injured by a classmate. And oh yeah, she's a witch with magic and now has a coven with 7 males who will all ultimately be her men. Now the council is in town keeping a watch on her and she's trying to track down her bio-dad. Add in the return of a few people Ariel hoped to never see or hear about again and her life is stressful!
The Ties That Bind covers a short, intense period in Ariel and her coven's life. Ariel and Dash have recovered from Chucky's attack physically but the mental scars linger. Ariel is still a mess. She internalizes way too much and worries non-stop. The girl overthinks everything! At times I want to shake her and make her appreciate the moment. This proves exactly how well written she is, she's so fully developed, so true to herself, so vivid, so genuine. I know how she will respond and what she will think in most situations. This is a complete character. We don't know the guys as well but we are learning more each wonderful book. Ariel gets a date with Damien along with a touch of Julian that is just lovely. Damien's thoughtfulness went a long way to proving his worth. Her interactions with Dash are increasingly sweet and her time with Quinton continues to be fiery. I can't get enough of this man! The Salt and Pepper twins aren't around much but when they are, they steal the conversation. I was not a fan of Tyson in this book. Don't get me wrong, I love this guy but I didn't like any of his choices. I don't like secrets, I don't like when someone decides to risk everyone to 'handle' things themselves, and I particularly didn't like who he was interacting with. It all just felt wrong to me. Rain makes his first dream appearance and his first visit. Daddy of the Year Candidate? Probably not. Psychopath? Quite possibly. Loves his daughter? I believe so. The fact that he is a fan of Quinton should say it all! I have to say I am intrigued with Rain, I am worried for Ariel (I don't want him to hurt her), and I enjoy his time with Quinton. The secrets he revealed about Ariel's family were fantastic. I look forward to more.
This book completely captured my attention. I read through the night. The tension on the pages was palpable at times and I could not get myself to put the book down. Very enjoyable!

Blood Magic (Ariel Kimber #3)Blood Magic (Ariel Kimber #3)

                    by Mary Martel   ****REVIEW

Ariel and Dash are recovering from Chuck's attack. While not devastated by the addition of yet another scar, this one on her face, Ariel is concerned about the reaction the guys will all have to her marred appearance. Her concerns that they are only interested in her since she is a rare female with magic are now even greater. Quinton is consumed with guilt over his role as well. Ariel is attempting to get to know Julian and Damien better, spend time with her Salt and Pepper twins, Dash, and Tyson, and denying her growing feelings for Quinton. Her desire to get to know the guys better conflicts with her feelings that they have put her on a pedestal to admire and keep safe but are not being open and honest with her. Her frustration is growing. Add in new information about her father and the continued presence of the Council and Ariel has all she can handle. She's determined to stop being a coward and face her life so it's time for her to step up and take control.
Blood Magic is an excellent book. My love for the guys continues to grow. Spending time with Julian and Damien, gaining a little insight into them was wonderful. Both are deeply complex and fit nicely into the rest of this damaged group. The Salt and Pepper twins are always fantastic with their constant need to reconnect as is Tyson with his barely contained temper. We didn't get too much of Dash since he is still recovering but what we did was great. And Uncle Quinton, Sigh... I can't get enough of this scowling, beautifully nasty-tempered, controlling man! The intricate relationships between these "brothers", the rocky dynamics and tension, the unbreakable bond gives this RH a different feel than many others and allows it to stand out. But while I adore this group of men, flaws and all, I am over their continuing exaltation of Annabell. Yes, they fell for her, yes, she was a true witch, yes she nearly destroyed the coven but either move on and put her ghost to rest or risk losing the next female. It's too much hanging over Ariel; the comparisons, the second-guessing, the lingering pain. I am constantly surprised that Ariel doesn't explode and threaten to find another coven if Annabell isn't put in the past. As my love for the guys deepens, my affection for Ariel lessens. I am having difficulty with her mood swings and her self-absorbedness. Trust me, I understand. Her life has been difficult, lately, it's been in constant turmoil. If she was able to smile and be cheery this would not be realistic. The book is better, more genuine for her reactions but that doesn't help me appreciate her behavior. I would like her to step out of her head, accept the guys being nice, communicate more instead of internalizing everything, being resentful, and exploding. I look forward to her growth as a person once she feels safe enough in her new life and with the guys. The few times she got "inspired" give me great hope for her character!
The timeline for this book is so small but we get so much information. Julian and Damien's hurts and insecurities, Ariel's family, the mystery and bizarre behavior of the Council made for an absorbing story. So many secrets revealed. So much angst and such a sense of foreboding. But for now, morning donuts, movie nights, twin sandwiches, this girl needs to start embracing life.

Love Potion (Ariel Kimber, #2) Love Potion (Ariel  Kimber #2)

                      by Mary Martel     ****REVIEW

Ariel Kimber has had a rough life that has turned upside down the last few months. Her no-good, abusive mother found a rich boyfriend and uprooted her to move in with him making Ariel a target for the high schoolers. Ariel found out that she has magic and as a rare female witch will be part of a coven and "be with" all of the males in the coven. Then her mother was caught trying to drown her and killed herself. Now her mom's boyfriend is moving to be closer to his family and Ariel must make a decision to go with him or stay and possibly be homeless. She's forgotten, however, that she's been claimed by a coven; she's no longer alone.

I really enjoyed the first Ariel Kimber book and looked forward to this one. I was definitely not disappointed with book 2, however, I do have mixed feelings. The storyline continued nicely. Very interesting revelations. We found out more about the Witching World, more about Ariel, Marcus Cole, and several of the guys. We actually got to spend time with the older set of guys in the coven this time, so now we have a better idea who Dash, Julian, and Damien are. We still definitely need more, but with a group this large it's natural that it would take time to get to know all of the guys. We were allowed a few true gems with them. We didn't get as much time with Tyson, Addison, and Abel, but what we did get was quality time. And lucky for me, we got plenty of Quinton. I realize that he is a polarizing character, but I love him. He's intense, volatile, his moral compass is questionable, but he's all in. He loves passionately, goes after what he wants with determination, and fiercely protects what he loves. Part dream/part nightmare!

What I didn't love was Ariel. I understand she's been abused, she has issues, but that doesn't make her any less selfish, frustrating or irritating at times. Someone placing a hand on your arm, trying to open a door for you or making nice small talk should NOT cause you to act like a little bi***. I would like to see her get out of her own head. Go to therapy, do yoga. Stop isolating, whining, overreacting and generally being nasty. It seemed to cause her physical pain to even say kind words to another. I felt sorry for her coven at times. I think she's lucky she's a rarity and that she's better in comparison to the last female in their lives. The few times she was delightful, it was easy to see what a great character she could be. Her reaction to the kitten, her gift, and Dash gave me hope. I'm hoping as Ariel settles into life with the guys and without her mother that her natural sweetness will show more.

The new revelations and probable dangers that came to light in this book make me eager for book 3. The coven's future will not be boring with the addition of Ariel. That's for certain!

Brothers of the Flame (Arie... Brothers of the Flame (Ariel Kimber #1)

                      by Mary Martel    ****REVIEW
Ariel Kimber is to a girl to be jealous of! Her mother is a walking nightmare, abusive, embarrassing, trashy drunk. Ariel is a loner; she struggles with her confidence because of her mother's abuse. Now as she starts her senior year her mother has moved her to a new town to be the companion of a kindly, wealthy respected widower that she met on-line. From the moment she enters her new school, the other students look down on her, judging her because of her mother. Ariel is used to being on her own, friendless, so this isn't anything she hasn't lived through before. This time there's a difference though. Mr. Cole, her mother's boyfriend is a truly kind man that is more of a parent to Ariel in a short period of time than her own mother has ever been. There are also the next door neighbors, Quinton and his nephew Tyson and their houseguests, twins Abel and Addison. Tyson and the twins quickly embrace Ariel into their lives in an almost smothering manner. Quinton has a dangerous need to protect her as well. Add in their other two friends Dash and Damien who seem to have a bit of a grudge against Ariel's presence in their lives and her life is turned upside-down. This group of guys also have a huge secret, one that includes Ariel. They are Brothers of the Flame. They introduce her to a new world. It's overwhelming and enthralling all at once.
I am intrigued by these characters. None of the guys are cookie-cutter heroes. Quinton is intense and dangerous. Tyson has a demanding attitude with a temper. The twins are hysterical; more one person than two. Dash and Damien are mostly unknowns at this point and not very likable. None of the guys have been shown in a great light consistently. There's no reason for Ariel to trust them or to even want to be near a couple of them. Ariel is not a sweet little kitten herself. She's prickly and stand-offish, yet her internal monologues and her verbal vomiting are endearing. I have the feeling if she's ever exposed to lasting love, she's going to be fabulous.
I liked the concept or the book. I look forward to finding out more about their abilities. I'm interested to see how they gain Ariel's trust and affection. This is a reverse harem, so in theory, she will end up with all of the guys, but with their conflicted feelings and the in-fighting, I wouldn't be shocked to lose a character. I can't wait until the next book. Ariel has so many feelings to work through, her future is uncertain, and the guys are uncertainties right now. What they want or don't want will be less important than what Ariel decides. This series has great potential.

Ashes (The River Ash Pack, #1) Ashes (The River Ash Pack #1)

             by Mary Martel   ****REVIEW
Cordelia has led a privileged, sheltered life as the Alpha's daughter. She's never known life outside the safety of her fathers guarded compound and while he may be harsh at times, she's lived comfortably and been allowed to indulge her interests. That all changes when he decides to marry her off in the best interests of himself and the pack. When she tries to stand up for herself she learns just how evil, how depraved he is. Violated, bleeding, broken Cordelia is found by two strangers who have broken into the compound. They get her to safety and help her heal. Then she runs. As it turns out, she runs into more trouble. Fearful and angry Cordelia soon finds that safety is found with unexpected people and that family does not mean blood.

Dark pasts, depraved daddies, damaged, deadly Alphas. This book held me in its grip from the beginning. I gasped, I fumed, I giggled. I was enthralled. My heart went out to Cordelia. I look forward to watching her come into her own. It's not that she was weak, just unprepared, then traumatized. By the end though, naked and proud we got a glimpse of the glorious woman she will be. Callum, Luca, and Darius all twisted and damaged in their own ways. Darius as the grumpy bestie was my absolute favorite. His moments of confusion, his fierce protective streak, his unguarded laugh were everything. Callum with his scars and his cuddly wolf was wonderful. I didn't feel the connection as much with Luca but am confident I will.

This book is not for the fainthearted reader. It is not a sweet, soft shifter story. It's harsh, ugly, brutally violent. Never have lines been drawn between good and bad characters more than in this book. I'm not sure who I despised more, the established Alphas or the conniving women. This shifter world needs the war that is coming. A cleanse is needed. Cordelia, Callum, Luca, and Darius need to lead the way. I can't wait for more.

Don't Rush Me Don't Rush Me (Nora Jacobs #1)                                 by Jackie May   ****REVIEW

Nora's life has been anything but charmed, in fact, she feels as if she is cursed. At age 6 she lost her mother in a brutal vampire attack; placed in the foster system she has been used and abused since she was 7. Now as an adult she lives alone in a bad Detroit neighborhood. It's a lonely existence since she tries to attract as little attention as possible. She has a few unusual 'gifts' that make it hard for her to be around other people. She picks up someone's inner thoughts with any touching and gets past images by even touching objects. She also attracts men to the point of danger. Men are fascinated with her quickly becoming obsessed with her until sexual violence occurs. Needless to say, she has no trust in men and any physical contact makes her uncomfortable. So when her sleazy neighbor takes an interest in her she knows that she is in danger. When he abducts her, she finds a clever way to escape but it gains the attention of a powerful vampire, Parker. Parker takes her back to his sire Henry who quickly becomes obsessed with her and her powers and decides to claim her as his own. He wants her to work at finding a missing vampire but he also wants her as his. This triggers an entire series of events that entrenches Nora deeply into Detroit's paranormal community and introduces her to vampires, sorcerers, werewolves, a succubus, and even a troll. For the first time in her life, she has friends, family and also enemies. She's also in more danger than ever before but she's no longer alone. She has backup!

This is a dark, slow-burn RH. I loved it. It's nicely paced and multi-layered with a lot of originality. Nora is a complicated lead female. She has mental scars. Her PTSD stems from multiple horrific assaults and from her mother's. I appreciated her hesitance at any type of relationship, even friendships. She has genuine fear. I appreciate her strength and resilience. That she didn't fall for Harry after being abducted, mind raped, and compelled was refreshing and frankly a relief to me! She's smart, brave, and seems to hold on to a sliver of hope for a normal life. She wants a family, to feel safe. So relatable. The men in the book come in a great variety. The vampires: Harry is just awful, enough said. Parker seems like a genuinely nice guy even if he did start out on a bad note. The werewolf bartender, Wulf intrigues me since we didn't find out much about him. Oliver, our sorcerer is adorable. He's a contradiction; damaged yet so powerful, unsure of himself, yet thoughtful of Nora. Nick is an unknown. I only warmed up to him by the end. The over the top persona didn't appeal to me but the investigation partner did. And finally her troll, Terrance. I love this big guy. I love his protectiveness, his fierceness blended with his vulnerability, his sense of humor, and his gentleness with Nora. Fantastic character. There is essentially no romantic play in this book and definitely no sex. This is the way it had to be with Nora. But this also leaves a mystery as to which men will eventually become her harem. Instead of being frustrating, this builds the anticipation. It's quite unique in the RH genre.
This is a great beginning. I look forward to Nora's healing, collecting her harem, watching her create a real life, and eventually fall in love. There's much to like about this first book and even more to look forward to in future ones.

Trigger warnings: multiple descriptions and recountings of brutal sexual assault, plus a vampiric mental rape.

Willow Dark Storm (The Fiel... Willow Dark Storm (The Field of                          Blood Book 2)by
ZL Morris   ****REVIEW

One minute Willow is out photographing the woods and the next she is a prisoner locked in a cage, the pet of a drugged-up werewolf alpha. For four months she is his slave until he offers her up as food to appease angry vampire leaders. Willow isn't sure if her situation just got better or worse but it's out of her control. Instead of using her as a blood bag, the vampires seem to want to heal her, take care of her, make her happy. If only the danger ended there.
This was an enjoyable book but could have been better. The story as good but could have been developed more. There needed to be more character development and emotional connection between the characters. Willow seemed only half there at any time other than the camera scene. I understand that she had been tormented for four months but when it was made clear at the vampire estate that she was not a prisoner, she should have become more lively, more invested. Show emotion, ask a question or two, even try to escape. The vampire brothers needed more character, some backstory in general. We know more about Cassius and Lilith than we do Zadmus, Lazarus, and Idris. Towards the end, I could feel their connection but would have liked to spend more time with them so that it was clear it wasn't only a mated connection. The arrival of Tallulah and her pack, the fight developments, the betrayal, and aftermath were fast-paced and very entertaining. I look forward to more time with the surprise species.

Tallulah Falls (Field of Bl... Tallulah Falls (Field of Blood Book 1)

                     by Z.L. Morris   ****REVIEW
Tallulah is a half-mutt. She was part of the Argent Pack until she was five when she and her father were sent to live on the edge of pack grounds. Even her closest friends, Theo, Kenji, and Quimby distanced themselves from her. Now she helps her father run a pack house for visiting werewolves. Tallulah feels that she doesn't fit in either world, human or werewolf; her self-esteem is non-existent. She has given up on ever having a mate or finding true happiness within the pack. When dangerous werewolves attack her home, Tallulah is injured in her efforts to protect visiting pups. Sent to recover at the Alpha’s House, Tallulah is reunited with his sons, her childhood friends. Being near them is painful for Tallulah. It's obvious that they can't stand to be around her but she still misses them. Actually, she has crushes on them. Everything is not what it appears, however. Times spent together breaks down walls. Emotions are bared. Secrets are revealed. Can Tallulah forgive everyone for keeping her in the dark all of these years, especially the boys? Will she find her happiness after all or will she lose everything, including her life?
Tallulah Falls is wonderful. Tallulah is an excellent lead female. She's kind, brave, caring, clever. Her self-worth has been damaged by pack secrets. Feeling that she was unwanted, a lesser being to the full-werewolves has made her question who she is and if she matters. It's heartbreaking. I feel like my emotions went through the wringer with this girl. I was enchanted with her and the pups, swooning with her and the guys, outraged by the challenges, fearful of the danger, amused with her inner thoughts, and proud of her leadership. I am firmly Team Tallulah! It took me a second to warm up to the guys. I understand secrets, but still. Theo and the twins, Kenji, and Quimby are handsome, strong, loving. Good future leaders, good future mates; I am convinced.
The story was strong; action-filled with a nice balance of romance. This is a well-written book that kept my attention from the first paragraph. I look forward to more.

BEA PAIGE

                          by

                             by
Once the Breakers were everything to Penny. And because they were, she had to give them up. Even worse they let her walk away. She's been in pieces ever since; missing pieces of her heart. All that was left was her dance. Stardom Academy was her chance but somehow the Breakers are at the Academy. Again, she is caught between Xeno, York, Zayn, and Dax, and Jeb and David. Once again she is a pawn and lives are in danger. She barely survived them as boys. Now they are men and she can only hope, she's strong enough to face them again.

This book makes me ache. Penny's pain is all-consuming. Her emotions crush me. I am not able to separate my heart from these pages. Never have I felt such anger and pain directed at one character and never have I absorbed it as my own. At some point in this book, my pain was joined by anger. These boys...I understand she broke their hearts. I understand that they felt betrayed. But they let her down; each one of them failed her. They didn't trust her. Their love was selfish and when they lost it they became cruel. Some (one) more than the others. They weren't starving. They weren't scared. They weren't alone. They went on to do bad things. They never acted to protect another. They are not the men Penny hoped they would become. They don't deserve her. Somehow they must fix that. Forgiveness and redemption, second chances, interrupted.

Again, I have to give kudos to Bea Paige for her overlapping worlds. She is a master at connecting her characters without artifice. Grim and Beast turned out to be more pivotable than I expected and I love it. Grim is such an enigma. Their fondness for Pen was so unexpected and so appreciated. Clancy didn't play a huge role but she is fantastically dependable. We all need a Clancy in our corner.

I have to mention the other star of this book. Dance. The story is perfectly choreographed. Not only is it told in words, it's visual. Emotions leap off the page with each move, it bleeds through the music choices. It's telling that the Breakers lost their ability to feel through dance without Pen and yet it kept her afloat. Storytelling on a whole new level and I am all about it. That final dance left me stunned. So many things are going through my mind right now. I can't wait to see the reactions and repercussions when the lights come back on.

by
Find a Penny...Once she belonged to the Breakers. Xeno, York, Zayn, and Dax. They were her dance crew. They were her everything. But that was three years ago. They made their choices, she made her own. Their lives went in separate directions. And now as Pen gets her big break with a spot in the prestigious Stardom Academy, they are back. They no longer look at her with love in their eyes. Instead, they look at her with anger, pain, and hatred. No matter. Pen's time with the Breakers is unfinished but dance is her life and she will not let them destroy her again.

There are some characters that you know from the first word. It doesn't make sense, but you recognize something inside of them that speaks to you, you identify with them on a core level; they matter. Pen is that character to me. Her pain cut me to the bone. Each time she took a hit, literally or emotionally I felt the slice. When she was scared, I trembled. When she dreamed, I felt hope. When she danced, I soared. This is storytelling at it's best. Bea Paige is a genius at conveying emotion. I wish I could convey just how much this book made me feel. My words can't capture the poetry of this dance. It's raw, energetic, emotional, painful. The tension is palpable. It held me in thrall. My only complaint, I would have sacrificed Clancy for some POVs from the guys. I take that back, I have another complaint; I have to be patient now and wait for Lyrical. Easier said than done. If you only knew how my stomach dropped out with that ending.

Asia's life has been a mess since before she was born. From the moment she changed her name she's been trying to take control but it's a neverending fight. Now she's given up her control to save the boy she loves and the only family she's known. She's going against her own code and joining a gang and by doing so will likely lose the two boys she's attracted to and her friends. But she has no choice, she rarely does. She just does what she needs to do to get through each day.

Bea Paige has become one of my favorite authors. Since she has moved from paranormal RH to contemporary RH, her writing has reached a new quality. Her characters have a genuine depth; there's an authenticity to her writing, a rawness, an intensity that cannot be denied. Her writing was always good, her books entertaining but there is excellence to these last two series that takes my appreciation to a higher level.

This story is so layered, sometimes disturbing, sometimes heartwrenching, always entertaining. My heart broke so many times, and not always during the dark times. Their happiness brought me pain because it was such a rarity and should not have been. The joy they found in such simple pleasures should have been a regular occurrence instead of their constant struggles. Above all, however, I am always drawn to characters. Asia is fantastic. There's nothing about her that is extraordinary. She is smart, artistic, strong, and loyal. She is scared, untrusting, snarky, and sometimes makes life more difficult than it has to be. She's a survivor above all. It would be so easy to give up and be swallowed by her circumstances. She is damaged. Yet she persists. This is beautiful. The boys she belongs to are equal to her in every way. Eastern is a part of her. He's been beside her, loving her every step of her life. He always will be. Is there anything better? Sonny is happy with hidden hurts. The fact he has chosen positivity is something I identify with and admire tremendously. It takes more strength than most realize. Ford is a fierce, protective man that only allows a few people into his world. When he decides you are worthy, his acceptance is complete. This is an honor. And Camden is an artist whose life has been nearly destroyed because he loves his family. He's the most damaged, the one most at risk. His bravery to be a part of this group proves the man underneath. All of these guys and Asia deserve so much more than life gave them. Now together, they have a chance. The side characters Pink and Kate, Monk and his wolves, and the school admin are all complicated and damaged as well. I wish I could say that this was unrealistic but I think there are more walking wounded out there than the untouched. When you find your own, everything changes. I can't wait to see where they go from here. Their fight is not over, it's only beginning. The King is a threat but I think he's the one in danger now. My money is on Asia, the family she has created, and their new allies.

                         by

Asia is a graffiti artist. An artist who got caught tagging and is given the option of three years at Oceanside Academy or prison. So now she finds herself in a residential center run by a former convict who wants to change lives. Unfortunately, it's not that easy. Life at Oceanside follows the same rules of the streets and the rival gangs. However, Asia isn't one to follow rules.

Bea Paige has become one of my favorite authors. Her books have always been entertaining but now they have substance. There is an authenticity to her characters, a richness to her writing that has emerged with the last two series. This is technically an academy book but it's no posh boarding school with rich bullies. These kids play for keeps. Luckily Asia can hold her own. She's prickly on a good day, nasty on others. A beautiful artist with an attitude. She's a tough chick but she has a heart. When she loves, she is all in. This is a girl you can trust. If she says she has your back, she does; if she tells you she has no time for you, that's exactly what she means. Eastern, her best friend turned something more is the type of character I struggle with. He kept too many secrets, he betrayed her trust and their agreements. That's difficult for me to forget. I know his reasons but they weren't enough. He has work to do to regain trust. Sonny is a handful. Emotional, playful, volatile. Ford is almost his opposite. He's controlled violence. Camden is an unknown. He's in too deep, so it's hard to see the real man. The men all share a desire for Asia and all have the potential to be deadly. Somehow that only makes them more attractive.

This book was all about setting the stage. It's a little dark and gritty and feels legit. Now all of the characters are in place and lines are drawn. Let the games begin. These kids didn't grow up expecting a happy ending. They just want to survive. They have fight or flight honed to an art form. But there's no running from Oceanside. They're trapped. So they stay constantly on edge. Trust has to be earned. Respect doesn't come easy. Sharing just isn't a thing. I look forward to seeing how they break through each other's walls. A lifetime of habits will have to be overcome for this RH to work. I am so intrigued. How do these guys learn to come together? How do they curb their violent tendencies toward one another to make Asia happy? How will they balance being with Asia while still allowing her to be free? Remember "Belonging to someone and being owned by them are two very different things". Asia will not be caged in. It goes against her artist nature. She will be the biggest obstacle of all for any relationship/s to work. As strong as she is; the idea of love, giving her heart to someone else, letting go of some of her control will be terrifying to her. It's obvious, I am already somewhat obsessed with these characters and already wanting more.

Side note: Does anyone do crossovers better than Bea Paige??

Symphony (Finding Their Mus... Symphony (Finding Their Muse Book 4)

               by Bea Paige   *****Review
Ivan the beautiful dancer. Consumed with guilt over the suicide of his wife. She is his Domina. Anton the brilliant artist tortured by his inability to see color. She is his muse. Erik the master violinist tormented by the abuse he endured. She is his savior. Rose. She came into their lives; opened their hearts, showed them color, accepted their demons. Her strength saved them all. They need her. They love her. In return, they freed her from her own darkness, unlocked her heart, and gave her a life worth living. All four are beautifully flawed. Together they are simply beautiful. But there are still demons to be fought. This time the demons are not within their souls but are living and breathing. Humans who were supposed to be safe; who were meant to love and protect them. Twisted, evil humans. But these humans do not have the power to destroy what these four have created together. "They will weather the storm together. Until the Storm breaks".
I am afraid to write this review. More than any other series I have read and reviewed I feel that I cannot find the proper words. I will be haunted by its dark beauty. This series is a rarity. It's dark, twisted but unlike any other. The characters captured me and wouldn't let go. Their stories, individual and together moved me deeply. I think this series was masterfully created, written, and executed. Bea Paige deserves accolades for every single touch. The titles Steps, Strokes, Strings, and Symphony have an undeniable simplicity and elegance that only hint at the depth. The setting at Browlace Manor is ideal. It also undergoes a transformation beginning as a cold, stark manor with halls as haunted as the greatest Gothic manors of literature but by the end is a home filled with warmth and light. The characters begin as fragments, each embodied by pain. The pain was palpable throughout each book. It leaped off the pages. Pain suffered, pain inflicted by others and by oneself. It could have been prevented makes it even worse. The healing journey was agony in each book sometimes making it difficult to turn the page. I alternated between dread and anticipation. For each step away from the demons, I felt a sense of victory like the battle was my own. Never have I wanted characters saved and redeemed like these. But equally important, I wanted it to be true to their story. I didn't want the characters cheapened in any way. There could be no cheating, no quick fixes. This is not a story of butterflies and rainbows. It is a story of sunshine breaking through the deepest gloom. Pure. Perfection.

Strings (Finding Their Muse... Strings (Finding Their Muse Book 3)

              by Bea Paige   *****REVIEW
Existing, not living. Each haunted by the harm they caused another. Ruled by their past. It's time to stop running; time to stop hiding. Rose has captivated the broken men of Browlace Manor. She's the one. With Ivan she found acceptance, he made love to her; with Anton, she found peace in the darkness as he showed her compassion but Erik wants more. He wants her truth, her heart. The gifted violinist has a tortured past and feels that he is only safe living in a glass room. Rose wants to set him free. Erik knows the only way it works is if Rose also lets go of her pain, her secrets, her past. It's time to live. Time to feel, Time to let go. Time to hope.

Unmatched intensity. Addictive pain. Captivating monsters. Alluring danger. Beautiful darkness. This series steals my breath away. It's perfectly crafted. Each chapter, each scene, each sentence are exquisitely crafted. These books move me deeply. They make me feel. I rage. I rejoice. I hunger. I hurt. Now I hope. These three men are not Prince Charming. Rose is not their Princess. They are each damaged. Yet their broken pieces fit together to create a stunning mosaic. I expect their finale to be a masterpiece.

Strokes: A Dark Reverse Har... Strokes: A Dark Reverse Harem           Romance (Finding Their Muse #2)

               by Bea Paige    *****REVIEW

Anton Sachov, the artist who only sees in monochrome wants Rose as his muse. But what exactly does that mean to him? He lives his life as a ghost, seeing in shades of gray and he wants Rose to provide color to his world even if he must bleed her of her own color. After all, she wouldn't be the first person he destroyed. Rose is attracted to his brokenness. Drawn to his darkness, it feeds her own monster. She believes she can teach him color, prove to him that he can truly see. If she's wrong he may destroy what remains of her.
WOW! This book is genius, so dark, so disturbing. It's fantastically wicked. It challenged my senses. Rarely have I looked forward to a sequel like I did this one. Rarely have I been as engrossed with forces of darkness as I am with these characters. The brief scenes of Ivan and Erik are incredible. Even Ms. Hadley has her moments in this story. These three have such impact. And while this may be Anton's book we learn just as much about Rose as we do the tortured artist. Ivan's story was tragic, a book of punishment and guilt. Anton's is a story of obsession, addiction. There is only a trace amount of guilt, always overshadowed by selfishness, weakness. Anton can't be redeemed like Ivan, however, he's not completely lost. This is not a book about quick fixes and happily ever afters, it's a story of survival. Fighting to survive at any cost, even if that means destroying another to hold off your inner demons for a while longer. There are few shared moments of tenderness and no declarations of love, yet it is a love story. Like attracts like. Admiration, respect, lust, understanding. The foundation has been laid. It will take time. It may never look like a typical love affair but the passions will last.
White, Red, Cerulean Blue, Black, and Rose. Such powerful words, such vivid images. This is storytelling at its finest. It's not easy reading, however. It's ugly, painful, brutally twisted. It will make you gasp and wonder if there is any good left or if the gray nightmare will consume their souls. It has the ability to trigger you if it hits too close to home; it touches on drug abuse, mental health issues, imprisonment, mental, physical, and sexual abuse.

Steps (Finding Their Muse, #1) Steps (Finding Their Muse #1)

              by Bea Paige   *****REVIEW
Rose danced to live, she danced to survive and when her dancing was taken away, her past threatened to overcome her. Months of mental depression and physical pain took over her world. Finally, she resurfaced to take a job as the personal assistant to the mysterious Ivan Sachov. She immediately discovers that the Sachov family holds secrets as dark as her own. Sex, violence, pain, and desire. The Sachov's each hold demons as dangerous as Rose's. This job will either bring her back to life or destroy her once and for all.
***Warning: This is a dark story that contains suicide, self-harm and other topics that may be triggering. Read at your own discretion.***
I have enjoyed Bea Paige's Brother's Freed and Sisters of the Hex series. I had an idea of who she is as an author. I had an incomplete image of her talent. Steps is an enthralling story. This is her best work to date in my opinion. Set in Browlace Manor, more a prison than a home under the watchful, cruel eyes of Ms. Hadley, Rose comes to know Ivan, Anton, and Erik. Three men consumed by inner demons, broken by violence, loss, and a need to hurt others. Rose's own darkness immediately recognizes and claims them as her own. The question will be, is she strong enough to survive? Can she help them and herself or is this her end?
This is a dark, disturbing book, full of pain. Damaged men who want to control, to harm, to destroy women. I was haunted by each page. I am not usually drawn to the darker human elements but I am drawn to the broken. These men know what they do but they only think they understand why. Their damage rules them. They do what they must to survive. Just as Rose does. There is a definite beauty found among the broken pieces. The story-arc wraps up in a sense and the epilogue gives a frightening glance at what is next in the continuing nightmare of Browlace Manor's men and their muse. I eagerly look forward to this second book.

Fern's Decision (Sisters of... Fern's Decision (Sisters of Hex #4)
                by Bea Paige   ****REVIEW
Fern is no stranger to death, she's heard death's singing since she was a small child. But she chooses life. Every day she brings life into the world. She cherishes being the first to hold a new life, to welcome the new soul into the world. Then one day, as she fights to save a newborn, Fern hears the familiar song but this time she sees the singer. An Angel. An Angel of Death. One year passes since Fern saw the Angel, a year to doubt her eyes, her sanity. Then he returns but he's not alone, he has two others with him. And they are there for Fern. Clan Vitae once brought life into the world. Now they are cursed to only bring death. Fern is their savior. She is a lost daughter of the Clan, one of the sisters of the prophecy, their's. How do they claim her though when their touch brings death?
Fern's Decision is an emotional beginning to this part of the Sister's of Hex series. This could be read as a stand-alone trilogy but it would be a shame to do so. You would lose so much of the depth of the storytelling. Please read Accacia's trilogy first. I liked Fern as a midwife on Earth. I was not a fan of Fern meeting the Angels. I felt that she was judgmental to the point of cruelty. Gabe, Mihr, Ether, and the rest of Clan Vitae have suffered every day since they were cursed by Queen Adrielle. To have your beautiful gifts twisted around and cursed by the darkness of Adrielle and to have to commit atrocities against your own soul is pure malice. For Fern to pass condemnation on these victims did not endear her to me. Luckily, she seemed to understand more as the story went on. The three Angels are the missing pieces of Fern. Body, Mind, Soul; Warmth, Heat, Cold. Their pain, their feelings for Fern, and the hope they started to allow themselves to feel showcased their true beauty as Angels.
Great continuation of the sister prophecy. We have a compelling sister and her mates. Adrielle once again proves herself to be pure evil and her demon Abanthe is a fearsome horror. I look forward to the next book.

Accacia's Bite: A reverse h... Accacia's Bite: A reverse harem novel                                              (Sisters of Hex Book 3) by Bea Paige   ****REVIEW

Three men, vampires who claim Accacia's body, mind, soul. But her soul has been torn away from her. He's been stolen by another woman, poisoned, and is now back at the castle performing cruel atrocities for the evil Queen Adrielle. Devin is lost to the darkness and if Accacia can't save him then she and her men cannot fulfill their role in the prophecy of the 5 Sisters Ever Vale will be forever lost. This is the final installment of Accacia’s journey to be fully bonded to the men she loves. To save Devin she must sneak into the castle as Rhain and Ezra return as the Queen's knights. She must find Devin and face his darkness. He must return to her and the light. They will need to depend on the help of friends, new and old. Lives will be lost. Lines will be drawn. Sacrifices will be demanded.
This is a satisfying end to Accacia's part of the Sisters of Hex series. She has grown into a strong woman determined to save the last of her men. She's brave, caring, and convinced in the power of love. I love that she was willing to selflessly do what needed to be done to keep the prophecy alive but I had mixed feelings toward Devin. I know that this wasn't his fault but his actions did make everything worse. I felt like he needed to do more in the way of reparations. Accacia ended up making such a huge sacrifice. I'm not even sure how everything works for the group if the curse is successfully broken over Ever Vale. I worry that she will be isolated and feel alone. In comparison, Devin walked away from the mess with only guilt.
I love Lissa and Nostra. Hopefully, they can find happiness because they are the most sacrificing of all characters. I enjoyed the return of Blake despite the circumstances. There's something about him. The Angels of Death are fascinating and the Demi-Gods are certainly something. Whether that's good or bad remains to be seen. I can't wait to meet their match! Finally, it was great to see more of Queen Adrielle. I love a strong, worthy villain. She's powerful, ruled by self-interest, and overcome with darkness. Evil Incarnate. The final battle will be fierce. But that is a long way aways. Next up is Fern's story. I can't imagine that it will start as anything other than tragic. I look forward to the Angels finding some peace and love.

Accacia's Curse: A reverse ... Accacia's Curse: A reverse harem novel (Sisters of Hex Book 1)

                 by Bea Paige  ****REVIEW

Born with a rare blood disorder that means she cannot go out in daylight, Accacia lives in darkness determined to find the reason behind her condition, determined to find a cure. Her life is spent in the hospital lab or at home, always researching, always alone. Leaving work one evening, an attack by a co-worker and a rescue by an unknown man begins the road to answers, opens the door to a whole new world. The knight in shining armor who came to Accacia's rescue is in her house when she wakes the next morning and is followed by his two brothers in arms. Except they are not exactly men. They are what we consider vampires. Accacia's life is forever changed. She's in danger, her life is tied to the lives of the men literally, and she's part of a prophecy to save her world.

This is a hard book for me to review. I am going to review and rate it as an objective reviewer and on a personal level as separately as possible to be fair. There is a lot of good to this book. The story is original; the set up in this first book has great potential to become an excellent series. It's easy to see how it will all be woven together. The world building and world history are nicely done and I hope each book continues to add even more layers and depth. There's a wealth of paranormal characters, vampires, wolf shifters, angels, the fae, and good and evil witches. There's plenty of danger, action, even magic. The characters, Accacia, Rhain, Devin, and Ezra are all nicely developed. Accacia is a smart, strong lead female. She's lonely but doesn't seem bitter, just focused. The men are strong, fearless soldiers. Ever Vale, the prophecy, the five sisters, five clans; this is all fantastic. This is an entertaining book, one I think others will enjoy, so as a pure reviewer I will rate it a 4 star.

Now for my personal rant. I liked Accacia. I liked the guys. The four together though really bothered me. I don't want to do any spoilers, but I didn't feel that the guys cared about Accacia even a little. It wasn't stated, but I feel that the prophecy chose them to find her and that they are meant to be together to help fulfill the prophecy along with the other 4 sisters and their men. Once they found Accacia, Rhain professed to be overwhelmed with his feelings for her, yet he still disrespected her with another woman at the bar and again in a lesser manner once they returned to Ever Vale. Devin seems interested in her AND every other female he runs across. That he purposefully flirts in front of her could be alright except that he touches them (too far) and even in conversation talking about other women he smiles and makes comments about how pleasurable they would be. Heck no! And then there's Ezra. He's still completely in love with his deceased wife. Ready to die and join her. No interest in moving beyond his love and guilt over her death. He's not even nice to Accacia most of the time. His only remaining bond is with his brothers. There were several instances of the guys dismissing or belittiling Acccacia's wishes. They disrespected her feelings with other women. I read Reverse Harem because I love the fantasy of one woman being the center of the universe with a group of incredible men. I want to see the female treasured, loved, protected, cherished. It's unrealistic, sure, but I love it. This book upset me instead. True 'feeling sick to my stomach' upset at times. Guess that at least proves how realistic the characters seem!

I do recommend this book. Other readers may have an entirely different view of the men and the relationships than I do. I will read book 2. I love the idea of the 5 sisters and there's an excellent chance that the other relationships will be more along the lines of how I want the RH to be. I have a good feeling about the wolves.

Dawn of Love (Brothers Free... Dawn of Love (Brothers Freed #3)

                       by Bea Paige    ****REVIEW
Louisa has everything she never dreamed she could or would have. She has the love of three incredible men. She has put her past behind her and now feels secure and happy. To make it even more perfect her best friend, Nisha has found her own love with their friend, Cal. Now the six are taking a trip to paradise, a business trip to Thailand with plenty of tie for pleasure. The trip is full of fun, surprises, and sexy times but ends in tragedy. Everything that Louisa and her guys have between them is at risk. However, Louisa is not letting go without a fight.
Dawn of Love is the final installment in the Brothers Freed series. Bea Paige saved the best for last. It was scorching hot. It was touching. It was upsetting and nerve-wracking. Ultimately, it was satisfying. So we come to the end of Louisa's story. She started as a struggling-to-make-ends-meet Chalet girl and became Max's Icy, Bryce's sweetheart, and Hudson's butterfly. A forever love square. Perfect.

Storm of Seduction (Brother... Storm of Seduction (Brothers Freed #2)

                       by Bea Paige    ****REVIEW
After her mother's sudden death, Louisa took off in the middle of the night abandoning the brothers Freed in the French Alps. Now she's back home, waiting tables, living with her best friend, Nisha, and missing the brothers desperately. However, when one shows up at the diner, Louisa runs again. When a loan shark comes to collect her mother's debt Louisa is beaten up and threatened. Hurt and in danger Bryce Freed saves her, offers her the safety of the Freed family home and a job in their company. Having no other choice Louisa accepts his help and she and Nisha move in with the brothers. Once there she sees how badly her running hurt the guys. Now it's time for her to face her true fear. A Holiday with the Freed brothers was a fantasy, this is real life. Can she let down her walls and accept the love of these men? Can she trust them not to hurt her?
Storm of Seduction picks up Louisa's story right where the last book left off. I loved how Louisa reunited with the guys fairly quickly after it started but that we got to see the damage she left behind when she ran. It made the guys seem much more invested. I had my doubts about their level of commitment after seeing the men they were before but this went a long way towards earning my trust. Each of the men showed a sense of vulnerability that grabbed my heart. I also liked that Louisa was able to confess her fears. Each of these characters has suffered due to their childhoods and their parents. It would not make sense if they didn't have scars and issues to overcome. They are realistic and their connection more authentic. I found their growing closeness to be touching. And then there are the shared physical attractions. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts! It's a nice balance. I appreciated the introduction of Nisha and Callum and even Stuart. It was nice to add other relationships into their lives.
The story was entertaining with a few twists and turns. Romance, steaminess, and a touch of suspense. The story arc wraps up but in a way that lets you know, there's more to come!

Avalanche of Desire (Brothe... Avalanche of Desire (Brothers Freed #1)

                       by Bea Paige    ****REVIEW
Louisa's life is not glamorous. Her time is spent taking care of and cleaning up after her drunk, loose mother. She has a history of bad boyfriends. So when she gets the opportunity to be a chalet girl at a ski resort in the French Alps, she jumps at the opportunity to make good money and escape her home for the Holidays. It turns out that she is assigned the crown chalet at the resort, the chalet of 'The Brothers Freed', Hudson, Bryce, and Max. Three wealthy, gorgeous brothers who work hard and party harder. They spend their days skiing and their nights sleeping their way through every available female on the mountain. Every girl wants them, every girl except Louisa. She can't deny their sexiness or how handsome they are but they are damaged. She has enough damage of her own; she can't take on anyone else's. Despite a rocky first meeting, an even dicier second encounter, and a few run-ins with the brothers, Louisa declares herself off-limits and the four start to develop a friendship. There is a definite attraction, but Louisa is determined not be like her mother. With her track record, she also knows that she would come away with nothing more than some hot memories and a broken heart. So begins the story of the Ice Queen and the 3 Brothers Dim! However, a bad decision puts her at a disadvantage with the brothers and Hudson gives her an ultimatum; accompany the brothers to their private cabin further up the mountain for Christmas or be sent home. Feeling she has no choice, Louisa goes with the brothers. While the trip may start out poorly it quickly becomes the best Holiday of Louisa's life. She decides to take a chance and just enjoy herself, to follow her heart for their time away. This leads to an emotional and erotic connection between the four that brings Louisa happiness like she has never known before. Unfortunately, Holidays end and once back down the mountain real life steps in. A phone call destroys everything.
I first read Avalanche of Desire in the Snow and Seduction Anthology. This is an extended version of that original story. This one adds more heat to the mountaintop! I liked Louisa and understood her prickly, stand-offish behavior. I'm not sure I would have been tempted at all in her position. Yes, the guys were good-looking and sexy, however, they were such blatant womanizers it lessened any attraction I felt for them. Beyond their manwhoring ways, they were cruel at times trying to get a reaction from Louisa. I can't accept this behavior, it turns me off. I did appreciate their change of heart and their attempts at being better. The Holiday was lovely except for a momentary lapse with Bryce. It was also scorching hot!! Just let me say blindfold and table, shower, rug, bed. You get the idea! I loved how the story ended. Everything is now so uncertain, I can't wait to see what happens next. Is their connection real or were they only on Holiday?

From Ashes (Chosen Storm Bo... From Ashes (Chosen Storm #3)

               by Amanda Perry   ****REVIEW
Riley was only just beginning to believe. She is Chosen by the gods to be the most powerful Elemental leading the others in the fight against the Fallen. She has a family who loves her, a best friend, and a soul mate. She finally trusts in this love. So when Caleb tells her he can't "do this anymore" and walks away, she is left shattered. Trying to pick herself back up Riley is determined to continue her training to be the best weapon possible in the fight against Samael and his Fallen. It's difficult though since her body seems to be hurting as much as her broken heart. She's lost what little confidence she had and with Caleb wanting to be friends she isn't sure she will be strong enough to face her future.
I love this series. I can't get enough of it. I look forward to each new book and once I get a new one, I want to read it from cover to cover at once. I love the Elementals and the Fallen are strong adversaries. I can't stand when opponents are weak. What's the point if the outcome of a fight is never in question? I like Riley. I know that some readers have difficulty with her but they don't understand how well written she is. I work with Survivors. If she walked away from all of her childhood trauma and immediately seemed strong and well-balanced, I couldn't continue reading. She was trained to react certain ways to survive her childhood. She is damaged; her spirit is bruised. She will recover but will likely always carry scars. She has come so far but it's not a straight path. Two steps forward, one back, half a dozen sideways. Her self-doubt, her fears are complex and perfectly natural. She is going to assume the worst because that's what she knows. Be patient with her. Well done Amanda. Riley's family is awesome. Each one seems so genuine. I love the way they love and support her even when she closes herself off. Unconditional acceptance is perfect. The storyline with Caleb was necessarily frustrating. I was thrilled it was resolved before the book ended. I hate when characters have misunderstandings or refuse to talk for the entire book. And I adore Caleb. I realize it's silly to state the obvious since he is Riley's soulmate, but he is the perfect man for her. The scene with Caleb and Rose endeared him to me even more than he already was before. The book is just better when Riley has Caleb by her side.
The book ended with a cliffhanger. Not a horrible one, just mid-story. It was a natural break and had to be done since there is still much more story to come. I am interested to see what is truly happening. I think it could be something different from the obvious. Either way, I look forward to more.

Burning Roses (Chosen Storm... Burning Roses (Chosen Storm Book 2)

               by Amanda Perry    ****REVIEW
Riley's life has changed so much in the last few weeks but she doesn't seem to be able to change enough to keep up with her new life. She has a new loving family, she has been blessed, has her mate, has been visited by the gods, and designated the chosen one. It's everything she's ever wanted, everything she's ever dreamed of. But inside she's still a fragile, broken little girl. She can't trust this new life, this new family, in love. She has magic, she has power but she can't fight. Will they all fall to Samael and his fallen because of her?
Burning Roses is fantastic! I loved Hidden Embers and this is a worthy follow-up. Riley is so damaged. I work with Survivors so I really appreciate her character and the fact that she didn't arrive at her new family on Monday and by Wednesday was a perfectly balanced young lady. She is emotionally scarred. She will suffer from the abuse her entire life. She will become stronger and find ways to overcome some of the triggers but she will NEVER be completely healed. It's not a matter of wanting to be stronger, it's not a matter of being loved. She has been permanently harmed. Patience, kindness, love, consistency, and providing a feeling of safety and security will help her become the Riley they need but it won't be quick or easy. The fact that she is necessary for the impending war complicates everything. She is needed now but that's not possible. Frustration, feelings of failure, constant guilt over being an unwanted burden now factor in. And trust will be a constant problem. She's a complex character that has been written to perfection. Her family's, Cassie's and Caleb's reactions; loving and flawed are also perfect. Without therapy to handle each situation, they are bound to make certain times harder, make situations worse. The breakthrough moments are precious; the zoo, stuffed animals, the play, girl-time, and each hug. Each real conversation with Caleb, each shared confidence with Cassie came across as genuine and special. Ms. Perry deserves kudos for this part of the story. The rest of the story is equally compelling. The tension is building and you can feel time running out.
Now I am usually a huge fan of a good cliffhanger. I love the anticipation and suspense. I have to admit, this one hurt. I know the author has a busy life but I need an estimation for the next book. This one ended on such an upsetting and unsettling note. I needed a stuffed animal to hold on to myself at the end.

Hidden Embers (Chosen Storm... Hidden Embers (Chosen Storm Book 1)

                 by
Amanda Perry   *****REVIEW

Riley grew up in a nightmare. Her mother was mentally and physically abusive. Her stepfather was a monster. She was never shown any affection, never taken cared of; instead, she was used as a cook and maid and told how ugly, stupid, and worthless she was. She was the mistake, the one who ruined their lives. When her 17th birthday turned into a crime scene the state found her birth father and sent her to live with him. Mark and his wife Leanne, along with their son Jaxon and his girlfriend Cassie and best friend Caleb welcome her into their home and their lives. It's not so easy for Riley to settle in and accept what they are offering. Scarred from her past Riley stutters, jumps at every raised voice, startles when approached, and panics when touched. She assumes that she is unwanted, a burden and that they will eventually hurt her and kick her out. She doesn't sleep and when she does she has memory induced nightmares. She's a broken, little girl and despite her family's attempts at understanding, she can't bring herself to relax and trust them. Caleb seems to understand. His gentleness, his thoughtfulness, his kind words and actions get through to Riley. She feels safe with Caleb. She learns to trust Caleb. He is the beginning. Riley starts to allow herself to believe that she can have the kind of family she read about in her books. Maybe she's not a burden but truly wanted. For the first time in her life, she has moments of joy and freedom. Just as she's opening up to her new family, just as she's starting to feel something for Caleb, unusual occurrences start happening around Riley. She's not who she thought she was, she's something more. She has magic but so does her new family and they are with her during this confusing time. Riley has their total support even when she turns out to be more than they ever expected placing her in danger. Now the future depends on Riley. She will have to trust her family and their love completely if she's to save them all.

Wow! This is an amazing book! Riley is an incredible character; so authentic. The neglect, physical abuse, and especially the mental torture she suffered was portrayed in brutal nightmares. Her resulting PTSD was well-written. I work with Survivors. Every action, every reaction was genuine. I loved that we knew her inner thoughts. It gave each scene more impact. From the first page, I wanted to gather her up in my arms and hold her. Her mother's words to her broke my heart. They were so much worse than her stepfather's cruelty. So much more damaging. The day-to-day abuse was overwhelming. Riley's strength is unmatched. Just to still be standing is an accomplishment. Riley might be scared, timid, have no expectations or self-worth but she's not bitter or mean. She's damaged but not ruined. She's with the right people to lead her out of desperation. Her family was refreshing; a stepmother who opened her heart immediately; a father who showed vulnerability, guilt, and helplessness but immediately claimed her and offered his love and protection; and Jaxon who assumed the role of protector, jokester, brother from the first moment. Cassie was pure sweetness. Thank you for not making her the typical mean-girl! I loved her energetic, lightheartedness. And Caleb (swoon). Male perfection. His love, his understanding, his constant presence offering comfort and security were all exactly right for Riley. Spending time with these characters was a pleasure made even better by an entertaining paranormal story.
I will be honest, this book caught me a little by surprise. I expected to enjoy it having read a short story by Amanda Perry before. I didn't expect to love it like I did. I fell in love with the characters. I was drawn in from page one and read it in one sitting. Now I'm eagerly awaiting the next book.

Finding Serenity (Silver Li... Finding Serenity (Silver Lining #2)

              by Amanda Perry   **** REVIEW
Taylor's life is nothing special but it makes her happy; good job, nice apartment, wonderful friends, and family. Staying late one Friday sets a chain of events in motion that puts her entire world in jeopardy. Her car breaks down on her way home and while looking over the engine she hears a scream. Acting purely on instinct Taylor rushes toward the screams and interrupts an abduction. She nearly frees the young girl but instead finds herself drugged and kidnapped as well. The girls are held with others in a warehouse and readied to be 'sold'. Except for Taylor. She catches the eye of the big boss who decides he wants her for his own pet. SWAT rescues the girls before they are sold but since the boss gets away, Taylor is still in danger. The boss has decided that she is his and soon makes it clear that he will destroy anything and anyone who keeps him from his pet. Luckily for Taylor, her rescuers are equally determined to keep her safe. If only she could protect her heart from Maverick, Allistar, Marak, and Syn.
Finding Serenity is the second of the Silver Lining series. The characters are all new but there is a crossover with the original guys and Parker from book 1. This one can easily be read as a stand-alone although I did love the bridge with the original story and original characters. This book is as well written as the first and the characters every bit as compelling. Taylor is a feisty, loving, little Diet Coke-addicted fireball. Her bond with her besties and her protective nature of the guy's friendship showed her character. There wasn't a selfish, thoughtless bone in her body. There were, however, plenty of stubborn, fun-loving, and mischievous ones. I adored the guys. Closer than brothers, their loyalty and love for one another were admirable. The fact that they never came across as man-whores took them from handsome to stunning. Syn, funny and such a caretaker, Alistar, protective and caring, Marak with his adorable dorkiness, and Maverick the domineering leader. These guys had each other's backs and when they took Taylor in she fit perfectly. You could tell that it would be forever once they all figured it out. One more character of note. Grumpy. I want a Grumpy! Unconditional love with a healthy sense of humor. This man is magnificent!!
The story is entertaining and full of suspense. The damsel in distress that can hold her own but has four gorgeous men determined to protect her from the 'big baddie'... call me a sucker, but I love it! So romantic. And despite Taylor getting in her own way, the ending sorted itself out exactly as I wanted. The end...for now. I'm holding you to this!

RIPLEY PROSERPINA

Boys and Burlesque

                          by
Southern towns have big hearts, narrow minds, and long memories. Truer words have never been uttered. Elizabeth Lauren Belle Bartlett knows this better than anyone because once upon a time she was a girl madly in love with four boys in a small southern town. But when the town found out, she was judged, shamed, and the boys took off, leaving her alone. She needed them and they failed her. But Betsy was a survivor. A trained ballerina with dreams of Julliard, she turned to another style of dance to make her way in the world. Burlesque. She used her body to become a success. To become Betty. She found fame and fortune, and now the boys have found her. Josh, Brant, Wes, and Landry broke her heart, destroyed the girl she once was and now they want her forgiveness, a second chance. They want a life with her. Betsy is gone, Betty survived. If she lets them close to her and they hurt her again there may be nothing left of Elizabeth Lauren Belle Bartlett at all.

I've been asked several times in the last few weeks what makes my review a 5 star vs a 4 star. It's hard to explain but the final star always comes down to the characters. Many times the difference can come down ot one character. The character who becomes real to me; follows me off of the pages, lingers in my mind days, weeks, months later. It may be a character I connect with, am horrified by or intrigued with. They make me feel something. If I become obsessed with a character, it's a 5 star. Betsy is that character in this book. In her youth, she was so open. She offered her love freely and wholly. She exuded goodness and naivety. She paid enormously for this. Her circumstances in a small town were so realistic. No place can destroy you like your hometown can. The pain caused by the town's judgment and shunning of her was nothing compared to the betrayal and hurt she felt over the boys abandonment. It was palpable and I grieved with Betsy. I was hurt, disappointed, and angry with the boys. I doubt their relationship would have survived if the didn't follow their own paths but the immature way the boys went about the breakup was cowardly and cruel. I struggled with their return. Is it a matter of pride or self-preservation? Forgiveness or foolishness? Inevitability or ruination. Despite my reservations, however, Josh, Brant, Wes, and Landry wormed their way back into my heart.

This book is a simple love story, times four. But we all know love is never simple. It's messy, sometimes hurtful and ugly and in some cases forever. I was a messy ball of emotions throughout this book. It's a love story that exposed all of the characters. As I have come to expect from Ripley Proserpina the character arcs in this book were extraordinary. From childhood, through their coming of age years, to adulthood. Every last thought and emotion were revealed in multiple clever ways. Betsy was the star from beginning to end on every level. She knew who she was and owned it. She was unapologetic and proud. She was kind even after she closed off a part of herself. It took the boys much longer to become men worthy of her. It was beautiful when they finally started earning the love she once freely gave. They repaired the cracks in her broken heart. They made me believe.

Keep these classic-inspired stories coming. First Jane Eyre, now Camille. Who is next? Rebecca? Anne? I am in awe that you can take my favorite women from literature and turn them inside out to create these incredible RHs. You give new meaning to The Scarlet Letter.

Just Jayne Just Jayne

               by Ripley Proserpina   *****REVIEW
Abused at every turn of her childhood Jayne grew up expecting the worst. Overlooked, underestimated, she is plain Jayne. However, she's a wonderful teacher determined to show each of her students how special they are. When she is hired as the private tutor to the only daughter of one of the world's biggest rock bands, it doesn't take long for the guys in the band to realize just how special Jayne is. Tennyson, Lee, Klaus, and Diego make up Rochester's Pathos. Four men, closer than regular bandmates, closer than brothers. They have an unbreakable bond and they share everything in their lives. From the moment they meet the little teacher they are enamored and want to make her their own but they have a secret that has the power to destroy their world. And Jayne's.
This is a contemporary, reverse harem retelling of the classic Jane Eyre. I will never be satisfied with the original again. So cleverly written. So beautifully executed. This is a remarkable story. Ripley Proserpina has created a fascinating group of characters; a band of four creative masters complete with secrets and demons; an adorable child who wants nothing more than a home and love; a discriminating young lady who bears the scars of her upbringing; and a haunted shell of an unlucky woman who lived too hard. The varied supporting cast brings echoes of the original book into this contemporary one, each with their own subtle twist.

I enjoyed every second of this book. I am slightly bewildered that a book I am so intimately familiar with can retain its integrity and yet be so significantly changed. This book walks a fine line with the characters. The men are rock gods yet relatable, talented and successful, yet troubled and vulnerable; they make mistakes, lie, and sometimes treat Jayne poorly yet they are still sympathetic. Jayne herself is also a contradiction. She considers herself plain yet the men find her beautiful, she's intelligent yet doubts herself, she's easily triggered yet a pillar of strength. She is their answer. She is exactly what each of the men and their daughter needs. I didn't realize it until I got my hands on this book but it's exactly what I needed as well! Now I'm somewhat obsessed considering other classics that could be turned into RHs!

Forge and Fire (The Replace...Forge and Fire (The Replacement Book 1)

            by Ripley Proserpina   ****REVIEW
Tatiana is a replacement, an exchanged child, a changeling made of sticks and stones and leaves. When the Rusalka saw the real Tatiana in her crib, she couldn't resist. She wanted her as her own daughter and created the replacement to leave in the baby's place. The replacement should only have lived a few days and although she's never been healthy she's survived for twenty years. But now her time is running out. When the creature who created her returns she learns her truth. She is a feia. The visit also triggers a series of visits and changes everything for Tatiana. The human world is killing her, she doesn't belong there, so she decides to return to Korolevstvo, home of the feia. She will find the real Tatiana and return her to her rightful home and family. She loves her family enough to do this last act for them. She won't be alone on her journey. Her two visitors, the Roamer Grisha, and the bird Fedir will go with her. Along the way, they pick up a miner Shubin and a river dweller Taras and maybe even a prince. This is unheard of. Feia are known for trickery, selfishness, danger. But there's something about Tatiana that they are unable to resist. She draws them in, makes them happier than they have ever been, and they just know it's right to stay with each other and with her. In a land that is truly alive and poisoned these six have found new hope.
No one is better at creating new worlds than Ripley Proserpina. This one is a mirror world; the normal one we live in and the world of the feia. Once they were both beautiful, untarnished but now both are polluted, dying. The difference is that Korolevstvo is actually alive and the poisoning has made it deadly on multiple levels. If the metal doesn't kill the feia, the land itself might in its anger. Its inhabitants are equally dangerous. Tatiana and her guys are in the middle of a dangerous war. One that they were unaware of and didn't know the powerful players. Replacement Tatiana is precious. Her body may have been weak but her heart is fierce. She loves completely. She is kind, caring, protective, and funny. Her collection of feia is pretty wonderful too. Each has been hurt and controlled in the past. More important each of the guys has been alone. Tati is the first family they have known in a very long time or maybe the first they've ever known. What they have found together is worth protcting, worth fighting for. She's bringing change to the land, possibly returning it to how it once was, how it should be. Already she's made a difference in their lives and she's paid a dear price. But this little replacement is strong and she has her guys around her. This is only the beginning. I can't wait to see what's next.

Diadem of Blood and Bones: ... Diadem of Blood and Bones:                  Midnight's Crown, Book 3 by Ripley Proserpina                            ****REVIEW

Forced by Asher to choose between her own life and those of her vampires, Marcus, Hudson, Sylvain, and Valen was no choice at all. Briar burned. But she didn't die. She returned to her vampires as a vampire herself. A new kind of vampire. One that can exist in the sun, one who doesn't drink human blood, one whose body holds secrets. With an eternity to spend together, learning, loving, the family has one more battle to fight. One of Asher's children wants his power. She wants the soldiers and the crawlers and she wants Asher's day-walking sons. One last war to fight. Briar is ready this time. She and her vampire will protect the vampires she loves, fight for the life they want.
Diadem of Blood and Bones is the wonderful conclusion to Briar's story. It's a story of Briar's transformation. Not just the physical transformation into a vampire but also into a powerful woman. Gone is the young, lost girl with dreams she can't ever imagine becoming a reality. Briar has realized her dreams in a way she could have never imagined. Her brilliance is now joined with confidence. Her four vampires, her own vampire, and Briar, herself have helped her to become a force. Her vampires have also changed. She has brought them to life again, offered them a real future. This is an emotional, heartfelt story.
Ripley created a fantastic set of characters, a relationship worth fighting for, and a dangerous enemy. This book has everything; steamy times, action, danger, angst, and lots of love with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. It wraps up nicely with what I consider the perfect ending.

Shadow of Thorns (Midnight'... Shadow of Thorns (Midnight's Crown #2)
                     by Ripley Proserpina   *****REVIEW
Shadow of Thorns brings the return of my favorite vampire-lite, Briar and her men, the vampires, Hudson, Valen, Sylvain, and Marcus. The men have shared their biggest secret with Briar and instead of watching her run away screaming in fear or madness, they have been surprised with her easy acceptance of who and what they are. Briar accepts the men and their 'beasts' completely, the good and the bad. She's falling for these men as they are. Unfortunately, with their attention, she also caught the eye of their creator, Asher. Asher failed once in his attempt to have the men kill Briar but now wants her for himself. He visits her nightly in her dreams creating an in-between world where he torments her; showing her the past, bloody misdeeds of her men, sharing their worst secrets, and drinking from her. Even with her health failing, Briar manages to outwit Asher but by doing so causes Asher to step up his war against Briar and his sons. Asher is determined to have his sons back under his control and to destroy the woman that means so much to them. The outcome of his war against them will be deadly for at least one side if not both. There will be death.
This second book continues the excellence introduced in book one. Ripley Proserpina creates exceptional characters and places them into 'ordinary' relationships even if the circumstances are anything but ordinary. Capturing an ordinary relationship at its most basic level and from every angle is uncommon. She captures every nuance allowing you to be more than just a casual observer, you become immersed in the story, completely enamored of the characters. This book offers more insight into the guys' past and their fears about living with and loving Briar. Secrets are revealed. Their past is not pretty; they are guilt-ridden, ashamed, and scared of Briar's reactions. Briar's acceptance of everything is amazing. Her beauty as a person is unrivaled. I have such respect for her strength, both physical and mental on every level. She has the ability to love every aspect, every action, every single part of those she calls her own. She's brave, protective, kind, and loving of her men. She matches them intellectually. She is a worthy woman to be with these accomplished men.

This is a book full of battle strategy and deepening relationships. The steaminess rises but on a realistic level. This is an actual relationship while a bit unconventional. This is not insta-love or insta-lust but a true connection of minds and spirits. There is an advancement in physical relations that moves at a perfect pace. There's suspense, tension, and action. The ending evokes nearly every emotion possible. It's not so much a cliffhanger but more the ending of one story and the beginning of the next. I look forward to seeing what happens next; what major and minor changes are in store for Briar and her vampires.

Briar (Midnight's Crown, #1) Briar: (Midnight's Crown Book 1)
                  by Ripley Proserpina      *****REVIEW

No author betters Ripley Proserpina when it comes to switching between contemporary stories and paranormal ones. This time she has combined the best of both worlds. Briar has a rare skin condition that doesn't allow her to step into even the most diffused sunlight. Her skin will immediately start to burn and blister upon any contact. Within seconds she has severe burns; minutes would kill her. Her life has been lived in darkness, in hospitals, in pain. However now as a graduate student, she is determined to join the rest of the world. Draped in her protective clothing, hat, gloves, and glasses she's ready to step out on her own and possibly get a scientist to help her find a cure so she can be "normal". Professor Hudson Nors is the leading research expert in the world regarding Briar's condition. He should be; as a vampire, he's been looking for his own cure for centuries. An accident after his lecture brings Briar to his attention. He comes to her rescue as his estranged brothers are checking in for the treatment. Now she has the attention of all four brothers, Hud, Marcus, Vali, and Sylvain. They all know immediately that everything has changed. This tiny, fragile girl is important, she's everything. She smells like home to each of them. She awakens feelings and urges long buried, brings the brothers back together, and awakens an old danger.
This is an exceptional book. It's a slow-burn Reverse Harem. It's well-written with such depth and perfectly developed, complex characters. Briar may be fragile on the outside, but the girl is titanium on the inside. She's brilliant, kind, and accepting. She's courageous, giving, and special in ways I can't even explain. Each one of the brothers is hurt. They have lived for hundreds, for thousands of years. Each has their own history. They were created by pure evil, abused, and did horrible things during their early years. They have lived with guilt and shame; they have loved and lost. They turned away from each other in pain and suffered. Now Briar is giving them another chance at happiness, another chance at a family. But it won't be easy to reach a happily ever after. The threat may be known to them, however only partially. And knowing who your enemy doesn't mean that you can stop them. Lives are in danger and death may not be the worst fate. However, Briar has brought hope, a reason to live, to fight. The brothers will do everything they can to keep her safe and make their family whole once again. I loved this one, look forward to the next. I will be pre-ordering book 2 as soon as it's up for sale!

While Beauty Sleeps (Once U... While Beauty Sleeps (Once Upon a                     Harem #7) by
Ripley Proserpina   ****REVIEW

Kumiko is cursed. On the day that she was presented to the court, she was cursed by a witch as revenge for her father breaking his word. This curse will last for 21 years and then she will die. Her older sisters magic awakened at the moment she was cursed and they were able to save her but just barely. Instead of dying on her 21st birthday, she will fall into a deep sleep and can only be awakened by true love's kiss. As if true love isn't difficult enough to find, the first part of the curse complicated her situation so much more. When anyone looked at Kumiko they don't see her as she truly is, they see the curse, the ugliest part of themselves. Time is running out for Kumiko and her sisters desperately parade one prince after another in front of Kumiko but none are able to look upon her without fleeing. Then her oldest sister brings four lesser princes home that she met at school. They are desperate in their own right as their island kingdom sorely needs money. They are arrogant enough to believe that one of them can break the curse. They have no idea what they are getting themselves into.

While Beauty Sleeps is a standalone, full-length RH in the Once Upon a Harem fairy tale collection. It's a modern-day twist on Sleeping Beauty. It's superb! So well-written with such vivid characters and such a sense of poignancy. Kumiko is perfect. I can think of no worse curse than the one placed on her. Truly a nightmare. To live your life and to be perceived as a monster of sorts is awful but worse than that is to never really ever be seen. The isolation, the desperation, the moments of hopelessness and frustration are balanced by a thoughtful, intelligent, wildly well-rounded, sometimes stubborn, funny young lady. Her sense of inadequacy was heartbreaking. Each time her feelings were shattered it was devastating. Yet she persisted. She took a moment, regrouped and kept trying. When she didn't feel that she could do it for herself, she did it for her sisters. And her sisters' fierce love and protectiveness for Kumiko was everything I could have asked for. Her parents may have made some mistakes along the way but her sisters always did right by her. They were awesome! The princes were unexpected. Definitely not your typical Alpha males. Insecure Goro, oversized, quiet Dai, emotional Reija, and Wataru so eager to help his people. Each one was raised to do their duty as a prince of their kingdom. Each was missing a piece of himself. They found that missing piece in Kumiko. The princes may not have actually been cursed but they were prisoners of their own fate. The opportunity to meet Kumiko, to see the real Kumiko, to fall in love with her despite the curse and fight for her changed them from overconfident, idealistic boys to actual Prince Charmings. Helping Kumiko blossom was the last thing needed for the HEA!

Finding Unity (The Searchers #6)
                    by
Nora Leslie survived tragedy. She survived the court of public opinion. She survived a madman. Now it's time to get beyond surviving and start living. Dr. Daniel Murray is facing his own trials. Nora is in love with Seok, Matisse, Ryan, Cai, and Apollo. But there are still battles left to face. Nora's story is once again in the news bringing her a degree of unwanted notoriety. Seok's father has called him home so he has a decision to make, his new family, or his birth family. But Nora's not worried. She understands exactly what they have created together and how strong they are. Love, rare and true, and forever.

What a rewarding conclusion to one of my favorite set of characters in any RH. I fell in love with these characters because of their effortless originality. They have such depth, such diversity, and such freshness. Each backstory is 100% developed and compelling. They each have a brilliance. Each has a connection to the others on a personal level and on a group level. It's an intricate web. There are struggles but it never feels forced or contrived. It is an uncommon trait in RH to find a book where the relationships are as natural as this one. In this final book, each guy gets to shine. Their strengths, weaknesses, and quirks are on full display. Honestly, my favorite guy changed every single scene depending on which guy was in it. And Nora truly "finds" herself. She accepts who she is and not only is she comfortable with who she is but she likes herself, is proud of the woman she is. This is a hard-earned victory. I love that I have been on this journey alongside her. I don't want to give any spoilers away but I couldn't be more pleased with how the guys handled their future with Nora individually and as a group. The dinner with Mr. Jheon was PERFECT. I couldn't decide if I should cheer, giggle or swoon but then why choose? I will miss these characters but I am thrilled with how they said goodbye.

Finding Strength (The Searchers #5)
                    by
"I won't be gone forever." Apollo walked away. It's not that he didn't love her. He does. And he knows she loves him but he's not enough. He never has been. Nora loves him but she also loves his friends. So he thought he needed to put some distance between them to figure things out. And he wasn't there when she needed him most. Now he understands but it may be too late. Now he may not get another chance.

Ripley Proserpina is one of my favorite authors. The Searchers is my favorite of her RH series. I read and like all subgenres of RH. I believe contemporary RH is by far the most difficult to write convincingly. It's such a fantasy, a ridiculous idea that this type of relationship would work. It's hard enough to make a conventional relationship last. Add in multiple personalities, egos, eccentricities and it generally seems too far-fetched and the reader must just suspend reality to enjoy the story. UNLESS the author takes great care with her characters and works out the delicate relationship balance. This series has captured the RH relationship in every way. The characters are diverse. They each have complicated backgrounds and inner struggles. Most have been judged harshly by society at some point. That makes this family they have created more believable. They have developed a close bond, an appreciation for the love they share, and a willingness to fight to protect their family due to who they each are. Since coming together, they have been tested repeatedly, tightening their already strong bond. There is a depth to these characters, to their story that is rarely found and it makes them resonate with me. I connect with each character during their individual story making it impossible for me to choose a favorite. From the beginning, however, Apollo has held a special place in my heart that is all his own. The sense of safety he projects is undeniably appealing. For anyone who has known upheaval, who lacks a solid foundation, Apollo is a must. It's understandable that Nora would gravitate towards the man who provided her a safe place. He would be the one that would allow her the freedom to be herself, to love the guys, to live the life she wants. His are the arms that offer her security. So when he walks away, naturally Nora would be shaken.

Apollo leaving was devastating. His story made it understandable. This was an emotional read for me. I had tears in my eyes the better part of the book. His story, although more extreme, is too common in many ways. My heart hurt for the little boy still living damaged within the giant of a man. Rarely do I want to hug a fictional character like I did Apollo. His growth, his reflection, and personal understanding in this book were quite a significant journey and one I felt privileged to accompany him on. I can't express enough how well done this story is. The trauma, past, and present, the epiphany, the strength exhibited by Apollo all wrapped up in another traumatic incident creating an entertaining story. I'm not sure how Ripley managed it. I can only echo Nora, "Best Christmas gift ever." Now I eagerly await Finding Unity. I'm almost afraid of what is coming but I know these characters are in good hands.

Finding Courage (The Search...Finding Courage (The Searchers Book 4)

             by  Ripley Proserpina     *****STAR REVIEW
Everyone has a past, secrets. Cai's has finally caught up with him. He's dealt with his past, it's all behind him and he's happy. At least that's what he thought. He's in love with Nora and so are his best friends. But when a woman from his past shows up, Cai realizes that he hasn't totally put his past to rest. He has a decision to make. Can he openly accept his new life, is Nora his present and future or will she become just another secret to be added to his past?
The Searchers is one of my favorite RH series. It's intelligent, original, and beautifully written. Ripley Proserpina has created a diverse set of characters that are complicated, flawed, and completely fascinating. The story as a whole is enthralling and each individual character's backstory is as well. This is Cai's story. It broke my heart. It's equally horrifying and tragic. Cai has always come across as kind and empathetic. Now we know just how true this is. His strength of character and resilience are also unmatched. He is a survivor. For a bit of this book, he disappointed me but that only shows that he's human. His basic character won out and I now love him more than ever. Nora continues to be one of my favorite female characters. Her beauty, her dignity, her kindness, and her strength once again shine in this book. I love the moments that she acts to protect the guys she loves without regard to her own interests. Such courage. Ryan and Tisse are fantastic, Seok is keeping a secret but remains steadfast, and Apollo is simply struggling.
As much as I loved, loved, loved this book, it only made my need for the next one stronger. With the events that played out in this story, I have so many questions that need answers. Can Dr. Murray be stopped, can Tyler be kept safe, will Tisse and/or Nora face more legal issues, what is Seok's secret, and what exactly is wrong with Apollo???? I may now be a bit obsessed with these characters!

Finding Truth (The Searchers, #3) Finding Truth (The Searchers #3)

                by Ripley Proserpina   ****STAR REVIEW
I love everything about The Searchers Series. I love the characters, the normalcy of their unique relationship, and the reality of the world around them. This is not a sugar coated, rosy story. The world can be unfair, cold at times; when you find your family, find love, you need to hold on to it tightly. That's exactly what Nora is doing with her guys. This book picks up where Ryan's left off. All of the main characters make appearances, but this is Matisse's story.
Matisse is even more complicated than I thought at first and that is saying something. His brain is wired differently and processing emotions, human intentions and actions is a struggle. He's a genius in some ways, yet struggles daily in others. I found him so admirable. The amount of work he puts in to be a good friend and boyfriend is amazing. It would be so easy to separate himself from people and just concentrate on disappearing into the world of computers and numbers, but he works hard at keeping his relationships. Once he decides something or someone is important to him, he studies them, picking up clues as to how to make them happy. Remarkable! This love and desire to do his best for others has landed him in trouble, allowed others to use him, betray him. His trust has been broken. And still, he feels so deeply. My heart broke for him at times. It's clear to see that his family and now Nora are vital to him and his happiness.
This book concentrated on Matisse's story and his piece of the relationship with Nora, but it also wove in more details with Dr. Murray and his study. There were some engrossing revelations. Now that certain details are known a new level of danger has been created. The suspense surrounding this part of the storyline is a wonderful counter to the love story. There is incredible depth to Ripley's writing. She takes care to polish even the finest details to create a sense of reality that is not found in many books. These characters, their emotions, talents, thoughts; their house and occupations all ring genuine. You know if someone coughs Apollo will head for the refrigerator and blender; you know if a threatening letter arrives Ryan will spring into action immediately. These characters have such a sense of authenticity. Such a good series!

Finding Valor (The Searchers, #2) Finding Valor (The Searchers #2)

                    by Ripley Proserpina   *****STAR REVIEW
Ripley Proserpina’s Finding Valor continues The Searchers series. This is one of the best RH series in existence. Each character is getting their own book as the story continues to progress. All of the characters are featured, but the main focus rests on one individual. This book is Ryan's.
Ryan has been waitlisted at his first/only choice of law school. This gives us a clear picture of how actions and choices from our past can affect our future, positively and negatively. Sometimes no matter how much we want it to, the past doesn't stay in the past. I love the in-depth view we get into Ryan’s past. Learning more about his past, and what makes him the person Nora falls in love with was fantastic. What a mess he made. He's fought a long internal battle to become a good man, but forgiveness is his now. The amount of good that came out of his pain and shame was inspiring. I hope Beau finds his own peace.
Nora continues to prove how wonderful she is. She has such strength. Her endless hope and love for her guys make me love her. Cai has a scare, Matisse shows he has a lot to learn, Apollo is a little jealous, and Seok is becoming more and more demonstrative.
Ripley is a wonderful writer. She has developed well-rounded characters with such depth. Their struggles are realistic and relatable. They have each made mistakes and are searching for redemption. They have each found their way into this group full of amazing people and the love they share is special. I can't wait to find out more about the other guys and continue on this journey with them and Nora.

Finding Nora (The Searchers... Finding Nora (The Searchers #1.5)

                     by Ripley Proserpina   *****STAR REVIEW
I'm a huge fan of Ripley Proserpina and The Searcher's series. Finding Nora is a novella that continues the story of Nora and her guys. I read it as part of the Falling For Them Anthology. It's an intense, well-written short read. Nora is a fantastic lead female and the guys are all pretty great too. This was a nice little bonus while I was waiting for Finding Valor.

Finding Honor (The Searcher... Finding Honor (The Searchers #1)

                    by Ripley Proserpina   *****STAR REVIEW

Finding Honor is book 1 in a new reverse harem series. It's a well-written book with great characters that make you want to read more. Nora is a product of the foster system. As a substitute teacher during a school shooting where she should have been celebrated as a hero, instead, she is named as a suspected accomplice. Ryan, a legal aid intern, is assigned to her case. He offers her a place to stay when she is released from the hospital with him and his four roommates. Honor struggles with her injuries, being seen as guilty in public opinion for a role in the shooting, and her growing desire and love for the five new guys in her life.
This is a well thought out book with developed characters, conflicts, and multiple layers. There is such diversity and depth. I look forward to the next installment. I can't wait to see how the relationships develop with such contrasting characters.

Whirlwind (Valos of Sonhadr... Whirlwind (Valos of Sonhadra #4)

                        by Ripley Proserpina   ****REVIEW
Aveline is a thief. Caught, she and her sister are serving time on a penal ship where Avaline was the subject of a sadistic doctor who wanted to answer the question of how much damage could be inflicted on the human body before it could no longer heal itself or respond to medication. Daily experiments proved that her tissue and muscles could regrow, her skin could repair itself although she was left scarred, and she was left blind in one eye when it couldn't heal. The daily torture she was subjected to was what she deserved for being a criminal, for being bad. It also made her feel as if she was protecting her sister and family is everything. When the penal ship tears apart Aveline is sent hurtling through space finding herself on a planet of color and clouds. The foreign planet appears abandoned. Escaping from a "nebula" Aveline crashes through a building and receives a stone that when it breaks apart finds its way to form 4 men/Ventos, beings of the air. Thanasis, Ettan, Branesh, and Aaddhar are brothers, possibly the only remaining survivors of their planet. Aveline helps to bring them back to life as their world also starts to come to life again. She is quite different from the men, but they each feel that she is a warrior, that her life and all she survived led her to them, made her perfect for them. She is their one. Can she forgive herself for her past and let go of her shame in order to let down the walls and accept these men? Will her past catch right back up to her before she even gets a chance at a better life?
Please allow me to gush for a minute over this author. Ripley Proserpina is masterful at worldbuilding. Once again she has created a new world with such vivid descriptions that it comes to life in front of your eyes. This planet is so picturesque. Each striking color of the clouds, the land, the men themselves paint a picture that makes each word stand out intensely. The history is detailed and rich, the characters complex. The relationships, although sudden, are realistic and believable. They are also sweet and sexy! I am in awe of this author's creativity and originality. She is one of the more talented authors writing today. She takes this setting, these characters and then weaves an enjoyable story. It was so satisfying; Kharma can be wonderful.

CECILIA RANDALL

Beyond Blue Frontiers (The ... Beyond Blue Frontiers (The Adventures of Blue Faust #3)  by Cecilia Randall

 REVIEW COMING SOON

Behind These Blue Eyes: Bet... Behind These Blue Eyes: Between The                                  Adventures (The Adventures of Blue Faust #2)

                     by Cecilia Randell   ****REVIEW
Blue and her friends have returned to Earth. But since everyone didn't make it back and now they must deal with the consequences of their adventure. The group seems to be coming apart and rumors are rampant. Blue is suffering from guilt and nightmares and fears that she has lost her friends. The guilt makes her believe that they have or will all turn against her. So, Blue, in true Blue fashion comes up with a Plan to help her friends feel better. She's going to get Phe and Kevin together, and Forrest out of his house. She also makes some important decisions about her life after high-school. Everything seems to be coming together. Except that she misses the other world, Mo'ata, and the other men she met there.
This is a novella that serves as a bridge between books one and two. It deals with the reality of returning to their everyday life perfectly. It's a nice filler but I would have liked more time with Blue and Forrest rather than Blue missing Mo'ata. I didn't feel that their relationship was captured as clearly as it was in the first book. Honestly, while this book served it's purpose as a bridge it didn't capture the original magic of the first book for me. I was captivated by book one and this one didn't reach the same level of appeal. However, that may have been because we needed to deal with the deaths and the grief. It may not have been possible. That might make this novella a brilliant idea if it leads to a magical third book. I plan to find out soon!

A Girl Named Blue: The Adve... A Girl Named Blue: The Adventure                   Begins (The Adventures of Blue Faust #1)

                       by Cecilia Randell   ****REVIEW
A Girl Named Blue: The Adventure Begins by Cecilia Randell lives up to its name! It's a fantastic beginning to a new Reverse Harem series. Blue is starting her senior year of high school at a new school. She's started over plenty of times due to her mom's job, but this is the first year without her beloved dad. To keep herself from falling into a funk, she has created a list. This is a wish list of new experiences to help her step out of her comfort zone. It also helps force her to connect with new friends starting on Day 1. While out hiking with her new friends, they accidentally travel through a portal ending up in another world. While there they face kidnappers, clansmen, and beasts; there's danger, violence, tragedy, attractions, and possibly love. Blue is definitely out of her comfort zone, but she's also never felt so alive.
There is great world building in this book. There's a complete glossary and an atlas before the story even begins. This is a detailed, multi-layered universe. The story is well-done. It's full of thrills and suspense. It's quite original. However, it's the characters in this book that make it special. Blue is delightful. She is captivating, yet has no idea how she affects the people, especially men, around her. Her dad was a wise man and she has taken his lessons to heart. She cares about other people and tries her best to make them happy. The men are all yummy. It's obvious that Forrest and Mo'ata will be part of her Prida (her little ducklings!), but I am not sure which of the other men will join them. Forrest is the perfect young man to fall in love with; an artist, sweet, smart. Mo'ata is a bit older, but he's irresistible. Then there's the complicated Jason, the hooligan Trevon, her rescuer Levi, the mercenary with a sense of humor Felix. These are all possibilities. Interesting twist to not make her choices clear. I also liked her best friends, Pre and Kevin. It was so nice to have a girl become an instant friend instead of an instant enemy to Blue.
I would have liked more detail once Blue returned to Earth. How did the disappearances play out? How was Phe able to finish her senior year? How did Jason fit in? There would have been mourning and an adjustment back to normalcy after such an experience. This is nitpicking. I enjoyed the book so much, I just wanted more. I want Forrest's last comment to take place quickly! I also want that comment followed by a kiss. Please!

AUTUMN REED

Scarlett XOXO

                      by
Scarlett is back in her hometown. Once the daughter of the local drunk, she now has notoriety of her own. She's the other woman. And her affair wasn't just with any man but the husband of the town's golden girl. So there are stares, name-calling, shaming, and shunning. Scarlett embraces it all. She deserves it. She didn't return home for forgiveness but for love. Not out of love for a man but that of a boy. She will do whatever it takes and endure whatever she must. She deserves the worst, he doesn't. But returning home isn't exactly as Scarlett expected. Second chances are rare but they do exist. A few good men and a best friend show her the unconditional support she needs to start over, to forgive herself, to live and love.

I am a fan of Autumn Reed. I have enjoyed each book she has released as a duo and as a solo writer. Her writing is varied, intelligent, entertaining, and well-done. Her characters always capture my attention, this one captured my heart. Scarlett XOXO is my favorite book of hers to date and since I have every one of her books on my Kindle and hard copies on my bookshelf, that is saying something. Anyone who has read my reviews should be surprised with my response to this book. Cheating is a hard line for me. Scarlett is the other woman. And yet, I not only sympathized with her, I loved her. She's flawed. She's made mistakes. She's human. She lacks the ability to see her own goodness, her own self-worth. She doesn't look for forgiveness or redemption because in her eyes, she is undeserving. She is wrong.

This is a story of ordinary days. It's a story of decisions, mistakes, and small gestures. A story of regret and redemption. A story of change and those who don't want to allow you that freedom. It's a story of life in all it's glory and ugliness. Scarlett faces life's everyday hardships. Life as a single "mother". A life full of debt. A life full of self-doubt. She also faces the guilt and shame of public mistakes in a small town. Small towns have long memories and never hold back their judgment. Scarlett faces each day bravely. Her own needs, dreams, and feelings are all ignored as she focuses on creating the childhood she barely had for the most important person in her life. A chance encounter, an offer, an opening to a second chance. Again, all ordinary. But this time it leads to extraordinary. Sometimes all it takes is one person to take a chance on you, to see something in you to help you onto a new path in life. Wyatt was that person for Scarlett. A serious, brooding bar owner, Wyatt was the first of Scarlett's friends. Jill, a waitress who recognized Scarlett as her new best friend, Brady, a warm, kind-hearted schoolteacher and their friend Carter, the heir to the local oil company soon followed. Scarlett's friends all cared enough to stand beside her and force her to see her own value. As she started to forgive herself, she realized that maybe not all of the town hated her either. It was a journey of self-forgiveness, finding self-worth, and self-love. Then it became a love story. Love in every form. Beautiful.

I embraced Scarlett's story. I identified with so many of the characters' insecurities, their personal hurts, their fears, regrets, and hopes. My heart was full of raw emotion throughout this read. It was so realistic, so well-written. I hope that this author has more stories like this one floating around in her head.

                       by
Thea's life has been in turmoil since the storm swept in destroying her home and sending her back to Moss Harbor and the Sharpe brothers. Leo, Tristan, and Hayle were her everything once and now they are quickly becoming the center of her world again. But she can't forget why she came back. She needs answers about her mother's death. The saying, "Be careful what you wish for" has never been more true. The secrets are all coming to light but once they do, nothing will be the same. Not everyone wants to hear the truth.

I've said often Autumn Reed is one of my favorite authors because her writing is intelligent. This twist on The Wizard of Oz is so clever. The comparisons were sometimes clear, sometimes subtle, sometimes humorous, always entertaining. Moss Harbor and Kansas are the backdrops. The characters Dorothy (Thea), Leo (Lion), Tristin (Tinman), Hayle (Scarecrow) all exhibit character growth endearing them to us as the readers. The Wicked Witch, Good Witch, the Wizard, and Toto too are all represented but no spoilers. The journey down the yellow brick road is the mystery of Thea's mother's death. And the message of love and home is delivered in the end. To get there we needed this final book, Hayle's story. His intelligence has been overshadowed by his desire to win the approval of his father and his lack of confidence. He's never felt equal to his brothers or felt his place in the family was as secure or important. Like his brothers, he needed Thea's return to figure out his own mind and understand what really matters. Like its original inspiration, this story and these characters have so much depth. It's an introspective journey that is rewarding and ends with love. And a fabulous pair of shoes.

                       by
Thea has only been back in Moss Harbor for a short while. She came back to discover answers surrounding her mother's death but it's turning into so much more. She's brought life back into Sharpe Manor and salvaged the closeness the brothers once held. She's given them a reason to care. Leo has found his courage with his love for Thea and now it's time for Tristin to prove that he has a heart.

I loved Leo's book; I love the new Leo, open and putting his heart on the line for Thea. However, Tristin is my favorite. Cruel Tristin resonates with pain. His damages soul draws me in. Each time he pushed Thea away, I wanted her to fight harder to pull him in. Everything about him appeals to me. Simply states, he is hot. Hayle also opened up more this time around exposing his insecurities. Each layer stripped away from these brothers makes me fall a little more for them.

This book was an emotional ride. Deliberate cuts, accidental wounds, confessions, and revelations. The curtain is slowly being drawn back on Oz. Beware, the ending will get you. You could feel the tension mounting and you had an idea where it was heading but then it catches you off-guard and the danger is real. I can't wait until the next book I look forward to Hayle's enlightenment and I need to unravel the mystery.

                        by
Thea's childhood was unsettled, so when her mom got engaged to Vincent Sharpe, Thea thought that she finally had the home she wanted complete with three stepbrothers, her best friends Leo, Hayle, and Sharpe. But then her mother died one week before the wedding and she went away to live with her aunt in Kansas. She didn't hear one word from the Sharpes from the moment she left. It was as if the color had bled out of her world. She lived a life lacking love with her aunt. Then a tornado destroyed her home and killed her aunt leaving her with nothing and bringing Vincent Sharpe back into her life. He offered her a home and to pay for her college if she would agree to live with him and his sons. Unable to pass up the opportunity to get answers to her childhood questions, Thea accepts his offer. Once there she discovers that the boys she left behind are no longer boys and nothing like the friends she remembered. They are broken and as much as she wants to ignore them, Thea can't help herself. She's drawn to them once again and needs to help piece them back together. Now if only they don't break her.

This is a subtle, intelligent, somewhat twisted retelling of The Wizard of Oz. I was impressed with its cleverness. Some of the comparisons to Oz are apparent, others take thought. It makes a compelling story. There is a mystery and several unexpected twists. It's sexy and sad. The main cast of characters is complex and there are several worthy side characters that make it a richer story.

Thea is an intelligent woman with a smart mouth. Her sass amused me. The guys are closed off. The years since Thea left have damaged them. They are lacking. Lacking courage, lacking brains, lacking heart. But as they accept Thea's return they start revealing themselves more and more. I couldn't get enough. The connection between Thea and the guys is evident but this is slow-burn. It has to be. They may have been best friends at one time but the foundation was destroyed. It must be rebuilt. The guys have all changed, Thea too, and this grown-up Thea surprises the guys. Not growing up in their world, her normalness stands out to them. She’s a breath of fresh air. They are so off track and she puts them back on the yellow brick road. But their journey is only starting and it is going to be on a long, winding road.

Touch of Promise (The Colle... Touch of Promise (The Collectors #3)

               by Autumn Reed   ****REVIEW
If you can't beat them, join them. Adele was almost consumed with hate and ideas of revenge but chose to follow the path of hope and love instead. However, just because she decided it wouldn't work to take the Collectors on directly doesn't mean that she has given up. Maybe it is better to keep your enemies close. Maybe she can take them down from the inside. With her powers changing and growing it's important that she learn how to master them as quickly as possible and to keep their full extent a secret. So Adele decides to accept a position with Gepetto and the Collectors but on her terms and with her friend's support.

This series continues to intrigue and impress me. Autumn Reed is an elegant author and her characters reflect this. Adele is sweet, smart, quirky, and growing into a confident woman. Her powers and magic and their potential are fantastic. Her main adversary Gepetto is proving worthy of fear. His greed and need for control make him dangerous. Noah really came alive in this book. His vulnerability and love for Adele made him shine and he just dripped sexiness. Jameson redeemed himself. I've had difficulty with this guy but each time I am ready to give up on him, he comes through in a big way. I still haven't made up my mind about Mason. There's something about him I don't trust. Maybe he's too smooth. I want him to prove me wrong. Stowe is still my favorite. He alternates between being an oversized teddy bear (or ogre) to being a sexy, romantic beast. These guys together are everything. Each unique, each having a different relationship with Adele, and each with words of devotion that make me melt. I love the combination of them all. I also love that the guys aren't the only people in Adele's life now. We still need the full return of Jem but I have faith. George and Ruby are splendid and I like Megan at first glance.

This story is entertaining and intelligent. The relationships are progressing, the danger is increasing, and Adele is becoming more of a force. The momentum is building. This story is written with a subtlety that is to be commended. There is a sense of grace, a hint of mystery, and a healthy dose of romance. It's a touch of excellence.

Touch of Wrath (The Collect... Touch of Wrath (The Collectors #2)

               by Autumn Reed   ****REVIEW
Revenge. Adele has lost her home, her business, and her beloved father because of The Collectors. All because the organization wants to use her powers for their own desires. They have taken everything that mattered to her and she won't rest until she has vengeance. She can't do it alone and she can't risk the lives of her new friends. New allies must be made, old grudges set aside. As her feelings deepen for Stowe, Noah, and Jameson she realizes that she still has much to risk, but is it too late?

The Collectors series is one of my favorite paranormal RHs. It's so full of feeling. There is a simple elegance to Autumn Reed's writing that shines through on each page. There is a sweetness with Adele and her guys that is often missing from other books in this genre. The characters are genuine. This is a grief-filled book. Adele's grief is prominent but she is not the only one who is dealing with loss and betrayal. It makes their new connection feel more fragile and more valuable. Adele's character growth is handled nicely, her sorrow, her guilt, and anger, her attraction to the guys all resonates. The scenes between Adele and her guys were so emotion-filled. Stowe, Noah, and even Jameson are impressive. I don't want to give any spoilers but their actions and words were thoughtful, caring, funny, and absolutely swoon-worthy. This is vital in a slow burn RH. We are also introduced to a new character in this book. Mason is a bit of a wildcard; unexpected and possibly untrustworthy, but then he could be exactly what is needed. As I stated, wildcard.

The mystery throughout this book is wonderful. So much is unknown regarding The Collectors and their endgame. Adele's witch side adds yet another layer. There are several developing surprises to accompany the furthering of the relationships. It's a balanced, entertaining read.

Touch of Regret (The Collec... Touch of Regret (The Collectors #1)

                by Autumn Reed   *****REVIEW

Adele Rose lives a quiet life. She lives with her father, manages an antique shop, and dates a nice guy. She appears to have a slightly quirky fashion sense but it's actually an effort to shield herself from her psychic ability. When Adele touches a person she sees a memory through their eyes; the more emotion the person feels, the stronger the memory. So she wears gloves. Imagine if you saw your ex-boyfriend's other sexual exploits when you touch him; you too would have a glove collection that could put a specialty shop to shame. She has always managed to control this ability until her curiosity gets the better of her one day and she decides to try out her ability on an object instead of a person. With a single, intentional touch, Adele gets a vision of the past and set events in motion that change everything. She's part of a psychic world she never knew existed and there's more to her than she could have ever guessed. She quickly gains new friends and new enemies. Her secrecy was offering her protection she never knew she needed. Now that she's exposed, she's not the only one at risk.

Touch of Regret is a wonderful beginning book to Autumn Reed's new "The Collectors" series. It's well thought out and intelligently written. Adele immediately won my love. I see her as a romantic heroine, reminiscent of a nostalgic lady from great novels in the past. Her sense of style, her sense of resignation to her 'touching situation', and her sense of loneliness appeal to me. So obviously, when she meets people she can be honest with, be accepted by, and become friends with I was thrilled. Jem is my ideal bestie full of energy and a bit of mischievousness. She is exactly what Adele needs to remember that life should be more than responsibilities. Noah is such a contradiction, strength and fragility wrapped up in one man. His way with words makes me swoon. Jameson has walls with shields and then more walls but the glimpses we get of him are everything. Stowe is huge, strong, protective, and lovable with a streak of insecurity. Definitely my favorite. The assorted side characters, good and bad, are all notable and nicely developed.

This story captures you. The suspense, the betrayals, the surprises, the very real danger all keep you on the edge of your seat. The tension and stakes build with each page. Then it ends. Honestly, I swiped my Kindle page at least three times trying to get to the next page. Then I screamed. Warning: it has a cruel cliffhanger. I love a good cliffhanger; makes me crave the next book immediately. This one made me want to hunt down the author and force her to tell me what happens next. Forget about waiting for the next book, I need to know now!

Defying the Odds: Risking I... Defying the Odds: Risking It Book 3

                        by  Autumn Reed   *****REVIEW
Emma has never been this happy. Once she put her fears, insecurities, and doubts aside and embraced her relationships with Cole, Shane, and Nicholas life has never been better. She's about to graduate, her story is almost complete, she has multiple job offers and three incredible men. Other than her mother's reaction to her dating status, life is perfect and she wonders now why she ever hesitated to go after what she wanted. But soon enough the outside world interferes and decisions are made that may end the torrid foursome forever. Emma goes from her most difficult decision being whose bed to sleep in on any given night to possibly losing one or even all of her men. How could things turn so quickly? Can she be with any of the men if she's not with all of them and not destroy their friendship? Will it even work if they aren't all together? Can their love be salvaged?
Defying the Odds is the conclusion to Autumn Reed's contemporary RH series, Risking It. Wow, Wow, Wow! I was absolutely consumed. Truly, I did not put it down once I opened it. I spent hours upset, cussing a certain character (and his creator), and worried sick over fictional characters! I may need to seek help. I went from having a warm, fuzzy happy feeling, giddy over Emma's happiness to gutted, tearing up, and nearly screaming in frustration and anger. Ms. Reed controlled my emotions for hours. Thank goodness for moments of lightness brought by Simone and Xavier, family moments provided by Ted, Shane's father and Emma's brother and dad, sexy moments and comforting ones given by two of Emma's men, the P's (Provocative Pair). These moments helped me keep it together and distracted me from wanting to physically attack my former favorite of the Triple Triple Threats. I'm not sure whose heart he broke more, Emma's or mine!
The story played out in the only way it possibly could. I have mixed feelings still. I understand Emma's decisions. They would not have been the same as my own. The ultimate outcome yes, the way it played out, NO! I wasn't totally satisfied. I needed more conversation, more explanation, more remorse, regret, and redemption. In my mind, this was too much of a mess to brush aside regardless of the timing. Damage had been done and I needed more time seeing work done to repair hurt feelings, recover trust; not just to Emma but to the best friends wronged as well. So yes, I understand why Emma forgave and embraced her third again so quickly but I really wanted more. However, the epilogue more than made up for any complaints I may have had about the ending. Absolutely, the best bet ever! Perfection. Now I know we have come to the end of the trilogy but I'm not ready to say goodbye forever. So what do you think? Maybe an election day novella? Halloween would be fantastic knowing how several of the characters already have a few costumes on hand. I'm not picky and I am willing to beg for a return to my favorite Vegas foursome one day in the future.

Playing to Win: Risking It ... Playing to Win: Risking It Book 2

                     by Autumn Reed     ****REVIEW
Playing to Win is the second book in Autumn Reed's Risking It Series, the fabulous book featuring Emma and her three overly competitive men-children, otherwise known as the Ts. This book picks up right before midnight. Shane, Cole, and Nic have accepted her daring proposition placing them all in a relationship. Now the question is, "Who gets the first kiss at midnight?" This may be the only simple question posed in the book. This is a book of growing pains. It's difficult enough finding your way at the beginning of a new relationship, but when you are finding your way with three different men at one time, it's overwhelming. The guys are all in, but Emma has doubts.
This book is one of the most realistic Reverse Harem stories that I have read. So many stories gloss over the difficulties a unique relationship like this would have. What normal female wouldn't question if she is good enough to hold the attention of three attractive, smart, successful, wealthy men? What female wouldn't be afraid that they would get bored, want more, and end up breaking her heart? What female wouldn't wonder why me? Am I special enough? Emma is every-woman in this regard. She's pretty, smart, fun, confident, but she doubts herself once the guys agree to all be with her. She's afraid. The guys all pick up on her hesitancy and this creates their own fears. Several missteps occur along the way. Emma and the guys don't always communicate or share their feelings/fears like they should. Holding back doesn't make a difference though. When you are falling in love, you can pretend all you want, you can try to be careful; you are still vulnerable to heartbreak. You can't win if you don't play. This relationship, these men are too good to lose and Emma is a smart girl. It's time to go all in.
I loved every second of this book. There was a great blend of sweet, sexy, funny, and frustrating times. Despite the setbacks, each relationship did move forward into more serious areas. So natural. I love Emma and her bestie, Simone, the guys, and Xavier. I love when the guys call Emma, Cinderella and I love Snow White. I loved the romance and the sexy times. I love red stilettos and black peep-toe boots. I love the cover. This book manages to show how much work is required to be a success while being incredibly fun. I look forward to the next one; wonder what the shoes will be.

Raising the Stakes (Risking... Raising the Stakes (Risking It #1)

                     by Autumn Reed  *****REVIEW
I read Raising the Stakes as part of the Falling For Them Anthology. This is a Reverse Harem novella.
Emma goes clubbing with her best friend to a trendy new Vegas club where she meets 3 amazingly sexy men. Within days all 3 guys, Shane, Nicholas, and Cole have all made their interest known. While Emma is drawn to all 3 guys she knows something is not as it seems. Suspicious, yet intrigued she decides to play along until she figures out what they are up to. I love that she is as smart as she is beautiful! I especially love when she turns the table on them and takes control.
Autumn Reed and Julia Clarke are two of the best in this genre. This novella is completely entertaining. The characters are smart and sexy; their attraction believable. Loved every second of this story and I look forward to more of their story in a full-length novel in the future.

REBECCA ROYCE

Still Waters: A Reverse Har... Still Waters:  (Wings of Artemis #9)

               by  Rebecca Royce   *****REVIEW

Amber Delacroix Chen used the Evander bombing of Oceania to escape to The Farm. Reunited with her sister Paloma and her men, she is studying to become a doctor and enjoying each second she can have with her nephew Benjamin. She is no longer at the mercy of the Chen family's abuse and neglect but a part of her heart still hurts, misses her husbands and the life she had wanted with the men she loved. Trying to remember the best parts of their relationship she asks for a favor. This simple favor results in her husbands and part of their fleet surrounding the farm and demanding her return. The Chen brothers, Amari, the head of the dynasty, Hunter, the engineer, and Shane, the scientist have believed their wife to be dead for two years. Now that they know better they will not go another day without her. Amber doesn't understand. She was not a good wife and has the scars to prove it. Why would they even want her back? But the brothers are determined to make her see their truth, to do better, and prove they belong together.
I love the Wings of Artemis series. I love the ship, I love the women, I love their men, and I love the story. Clearly, I was excited about Amber's story and guess what? I loved it! Each story surprises me. The overall story arc is consistent, the previous characters continue to be essential, however, each time a new character is featured, there is new life breathed into this wonderful series. Each one is a continuation yet also completely original. That amazes me. Amber is such a sympathetic character. She has never had a chance to blossom. Held down by controlling parents and nearly destroyed by her marriage she has no clue how intelligent, kind, and capable she is. She is strong and independent, yet she only sees a weak, scared failure. The Chen brothers are water barons, geniuses, and Z warriors. They were also raised to be awful husbands. They don't understand communication or how to love. This led to the near ruin of the most important person in their world. It was hard for me to forgive them as quickly as Amber did. To be so unaware of such major happenings in their empire, in their home was unforgivable. To expect that Amber could speak up or protect herself was unrealistic after her upbringing. I needed more redemption.
The story advanced in MAJOR ways around Amber's personal story. Evander with their continued attacks through, invasions and poisons are making their end move. They will control or destroy the universe. The time for war has come. Never has family meant more. Never has Artemis. I appreciated the acknowledgment for her history, her importance to each individual family and their story. The tears cried, the laughs chuckled, the angry words exchanged, the decisions made, and the lives forever changed. This ship has saved them all. Even with all of the story, this is a character-intensive book. Every past female character appears and has at least one important scene in this book as well as many of the men. The next generation is in full attendance. There is even a cat who has chosen her family. A new mystery character is introduced in spectacular fashion. So much!
I have to talk about the women of Artemis before I end. RR is known for her strong female characters. No one does female better. She sets every standard as far as I am concerned. What made this book so special to me is that these women came together. They supported Amber in every instance. Amber, Paloma, Diana, Waverly, and Melissa all together, women strong. It brought tears to my eyes. This is the true sisterhood. I can't wait to see what's next!

Light Unfolding: A Reverse ... Light Unfolding:  (Wings of Artemis  #8)
                  by  Rebecca Royce   *****REVIEW

Waverly Sandler touched a scanner and was instantly ripped away from her men, sent back in time, and hurled across the universe to Orion, a doomed planet. trained to be a nurse, Waverly finds herself doing odd jobs with the other women on the planet knowing that their days are numbered. Orion explodes in the not too distant future and everyone on the planet is destroyed. There's nothing Waverly can do to prevent the catastrophe or save the people. She can't even save herself. Or what's left of herself with her other halves across the universe. Life without Ari, Jackson, Rohan, and Canyon isn't much of a life anyway. Luckily for Waverly, her men feel the same and there is nothing that they won't do to get her back. Space, time, rules, wars; nothing will stop her men until they have their Waverly safely back in their arms again. Artemis has another woman to rescue. However, getting Waverly back is only the beginning. Maybe by the end of the journey, Waverly will finally understand just how important she is; not only to her men but to the survival of her people.
Light Unfolding is superb storytelling. The Wings of Artemis is the best sci-fi RH I've encountered. The world-building, the characters, the story arc is without equal. The complexity of the story with the time travel and the looping is amazing. Rebecca has included so many little details, tied together so many aspects from the different stories flawlessly. There are so many aha moments, so many what-ifs. I respect the consistency and the continuity.
Waverly may be my favorite of the Artemis women. She's extraordinary. So damaged growing up under the nastiest man in the universe. She never saw her own worth. It just wasn't possible for her to see her own light. She was blind to her strength, beauty, selflessness, generosity, and loving nature. It took two damaged humans and two super soldiers to make her understand. Watching her come into her own is a pleasure. These five together are the most heartrending family that Rebecca has ever created. Jackson's insecurities, Ari's hallucinations, Canyon's sight, and Rohan's killing nature all became asides under the nurturing love of Waverly. They all blossomed together. Several times I was brought to tears over the love that they displayed. Their words, their protective ways, the extremes they went to for Waverly. Swoon-worthy! Their declarations to Waverly and Waverly's vision captured relationship perfection.
This wasn't only a love story, however. The war escalated in a major way during this book. Suspense, tension, tragedy, victories, and defeats. Action-packed and so very good! I also have to give a nod in appreciation to Artemis. It's unbelievable to me that I see a ship as a true character. but I certainly do. The relationship with Canyon and Artemis was an unprecedented glimpse into this. So much is owed to Artemis. I don't know how Rebecca tops this book but I look forward to Amber and the Super Soldiers. Blaze already owns me. Amber has huge shoes to fill to keep up with the other women but I have no fears that she will be worthy given this second chance at life.

Dark Demise Dark Demise (Wings of Artemis #7)

                       by Rebecca Royce   *****REVIEW
Waverly is a Sandler, there's no denying it. However, she's nothing like her father. She doesn't have the blond-haired, blue-eyed Sandler good looks. She's not pretty and petite like the other Sandler women. Instead, she has bright red hair, brown eyes, too much padding on too many curves, and she's nearly 6 feet tall. In her father's eyes she is worthless; too ugly to serve him any purpose. He has brainwashed her since her first breath that she is a burden, worth nothing, unlovable. That's not the way the world sees her, however. Sure, some superficial people judge her on her less than model-worthy looks, but everyone that knows her knows what a treasure she is. She's an incredible lady, a skilled nurse, kind to all. She's lonely and has no self-confidence but she touches every life she comes in contact with. When Waverly is asked to be a part of the secret time project it brings her into the inner circle of the farm. She's working closely with the time jumpers, the 4 men who rescued her from the auction block; the 4 men she secretly crushes on. Ari, the doctor who suffers from hallucinations; Jackson, the former space pirate trying to redeem himself; and 2 super soldiers Rohan and Canyon. These men see Waverly for who she truly is, the woman they want, the woman they love. To be together they will have to survive murder attempts, chemical disease warfare, and space itself.
I wasn't sure about this story before I started it. I knew it would be well-written. I knew it would be a great sci-fi adventure with a solid love story. I love Rebecca Royce and I love the Artemis series but I didn't like the idea of a lead female so harshly judged on her looks and lacking self-confidence. I should not have been worried. This is a beautiful story. Five untraditional and damaged characters come together as one perfect family. It proves that love sees the truth of people. We can accept the unusual in one another, we can support and cherish the uniqueness. I found this story deeply moving. It gave me hope. That fictional characters can have this power is amazing. When Waverly began to trust, when Ari lost his shame, when Jackson found his future, when Rohan found his humanity, and when Canyon found his light I was completely enchanted. These characters, their love, and their story are more than worthy to join the Artemis series. Waverly is a Sandler in the best possible ways. I will say this book is a roller-coaster ride for emotions. For every good moment, there is a setback. Between the Sandler Cartel and the Evander Corporation, the universe and humanity are at risk. It's an amazing juxtaposition of desires; a man who wants absolute power, a corporation who wants every known resource and, both entities willing to destroy everything in their path to obtain their goals and a group of people who only want to live and love in peace. Their determination to have a safe home, family and future has inspired two generations of heroes so far. We still have a way to go until happily ever after is a possibility. This book ends with a brilliant twist that ties so many things together, yet is so heartbreaking at the same time. It's time for Artemis to fly again. We need another miracle out of her. I can't wait!!!!

Saving Them Saving Them (Wings of Artemis Book                                                 6)  by Rebecca Royce   ****REVIEW

I love the women of Artemis! Honestly, I never thought that I would find one that rivaled Melissa. She's the original bada**. Then I met Paloma. She's smart, brave, loving. She's as tough as Melissa, but she has a softness, a sense of vulnerability that Melissa was never allowed. As hard as Paloma's life has been, her childhood was also much more privileged and safer than Melissa's and this gave her a gentleness that Melissa never had. I think I have a new favorite.
Paloma is a Sandler wife in the time of war. Not an easy position to be in. Tommy, Keith, Quinn, and Clay are her world. Where they go, she goes; their fight is her's. When it all falls apart, she's right there with the men she loves. And when the worst comes to pass and she loses her loves, she's unwilling to accept it. Now is the time for her to step up and save the men she loves. She's come into her own; no longer the broken girl she once was. Now she's a woman to be reckoned with. This is the time the universe moves.
Saving Them is written in both the present time and with flashbacks. It mainly focuses on Paloma, however, her husbands have chapters sprinkled through the book. This helps to create and build tension. This is quite the adventure; full of action, danger, and suspense. Palmoma is forced to make tough decisions and cross lines. She meets every challenge. Her entire life has been leading to this moment and she is more than capable. Her husbands are incredible. They are always supportive and loving. These five are much stronger and better together.
There is great cross-over and coming together of storylines and characters in this book. I loved it! Paloma, Melissa, Diana, Priscilla and all of their men. Ari, the super-soldiers, and now Waverly. Life has come together. Life is also happening. How wonderful is it that everyday moments and joys continue amidst the troubled times! So many layers to this story. We get Sandler history and understanding, we get future mysteries in the present-day, and we have the ever-present war. Sandler continues to be a formidable enemy and now the Evander Corporation may be an even bigger opponent. And let's not forget the character that has been present in every single book...Artemis. She's not just a ship; she's magical, she survives. I have a fondness for a spaceship that cannot be denied! As long as she survives, as long as the women of Artemis stand and their men remain true, I have faith in the future.
Rebecca Royce is the reigning Queen of the sci-fi reverse harem romance. This series continues to be most entertaining. I look forward to continuing the story with Waverly and her men.

Loving Them Loving Them (Wings of Artemis #5)

                     by Rebecca Royce  *****STAR REVIEW
Loving Them continues the Wings of Artemis series focusing on Paloma and the Sandler Boys. I can honestly say that Rebecca Royce has created the most entertaining Reverse Harem in the sci-fi universe. This book is no exception. The book begins with Paloma, Thomas, Clay, Keith and Quinn McQueen on their way to Mars Station to hopefully join forces with Melissa and her men to rid the universe of the evil that is Garrison Sandler.
This book has it all. There is a war going on between the Sandler Cartel and the rest of the universe. There is danger, subterfuge, plotting, and diplomacy. This is personal for the boys who each feel the need to atone for the acts they committed under their father's control. Their brilliance and bravery are on full display. But there's also the intimate side to the story between Paloma and the men. They're engaged, it's time for the wedding and the marriage. It's not all smooth sailing balancing 5 strong personalities. Tommy’s brusque, but definitely vulnerable. He may be their leader, but in this relationship, he makes the biggest mistakes. Clay shines in this book. He may push too much at times, but he's strong and true all heart. Keith is a handful; mischievous and sexy, yet 100% with Paloma. Quinn’s still a tortured, brilliant soul who desperately needs Paloma's love. Paloma is more exposed this time. She's suffering from the lifetime of abuse she has endured and her men have a way of triggering her. It's great to see her start to understand herself and make demands. This new family has a lot to learn to make this marriage work, but enough love to see it through. It's clear that happiness will win out.
Rebecca Royce is one of my very favorite authors. Her characters are so true, complex, wonderfully flawed. Their relationships always ring true. The stories are always exciting. This story is suspenseful, sexy, sweet, incredibly funny, and moving. It's the perfect balance; between action and romance, between the individual relationships and the group, between the present and the past. I can not come up with one negative criticism and look forward to more in the future.

Reclaiming Their Love Reclaiming Their Love (Wings of Artemis #4)                 BY Rebecca Royce  **** STAR REVIEW

Fantastic Book! Reclaiming their Love is the 4th book in the wonderful Wings of Artemis series. It's the second half of Diana's story. After being separated from her 5 husbands, bitten by a "zombie", and taken back across the universe, Diana is only existing. She's been reunited with her family, but without her husbands, her life is empty. She is only a shell of the person she once was without her loves. But in this case, love wins. Against all odds, her husbands track her down and all 6 flee the Mars Station to meet back up with Diana's family and escape the threat of Sandler and his men.
Diana has her husbands back. They are all safe. It's all she wanted, and while she's happy, she's not. She's conflicted. One minute she's ecstatic, relieved, grateful, the next angry; one minute she's in the throes of passion, the next crying or mute. The dynamics of all 6 coming back together and finding their way together again isn't simple. It's a challenge, but one all of the men led by Diana will face.
This is a fast-paced, well-written book with plenty of danger, action, and of course, steamy sex. We fell in love with these characters in their first book, so it's great to have them all together again. The Sandler Cartel provides a great enemy and there's another threat looming by the end. Diana really comes into her own surrounded by her husbands. She finally sees how loved she is and has always been, and is willing to do whatever it takes to have the home she has always wanted. Safety, security, love. These are the things worth fighting for or escaping to.
I can't wait for this series to continue. Paloma's story is still unfinished. Now with characters being re-introduced; Jackson, Canyon, and Rohan, there are more great characters to follow-up on. So many stories waiting to be written. This universe may be scarce on women, but rich in entertainment. Highly recommend this series!

Crashing Into Destiny Crashing Into Destiny (Wings of Artemis #3)                       by Rebecca Royce   ****STAR REVIEW

I was a bit disappointed when I started this book. I loved Melissa and her husbands so much I wanted more. I didn't realize that this was Diana's book. It didn't take long though before I was fully engaged and loving this book as much as the first two. Diana is awesome!
Diana has always been a little different. She went for years without speaking, still has episodes of quiet when facing stress, and seems to have a set amount of words daily before interaction just becomes too much for her. She may not have words, but she has brains, beauty, and a great capacity to love and protect her family. An attack on the Artemis while she's doing repairs sends her back through the black hole and stranded on a frozen planet inhabited by 5 male employees of the Evander Corporation and hundreds of zombies. Diana stays hidden alone for months, but one day is attacked and then rescued by the men. The story truly begins here. Diana and her men Judge, Cash, Lewis, Sterling, and Damian are great. Each man has a distinctive character and Diana's relationship with each seems natural. She may never have wanted any type of relationship, especially one like her mother's, but on this distant planet, she has found everything she never knew she wanted.
This book is another roller coaster ride. There is action, suspense, humor, romance, and of course steamy sex scenes. Very nicely written RH. Rebecca Royce develops stories that are much more complex than average RH books. Warning: It does end on a cliffhanger that leaves you wanting more.

Rescued by their Wife Rescued by their Wife Wings of Artemis #2                      by Rebecca Royce    ****STAR REVIEW

Rescued By Their Wife is book 2 of The Wings of Artemis Series. The story picks up right where the first book ended. Melissa is determined to get her husbands back and to reunite with her 6th husband. Melissa comes into her own in this book. After regaining her memory, she combines the strong, strategic Melissa F'ing Alexander with the new, improved Melissa with a heart. She is finally a worthy heroine.
This is a fast paced book, lots of twists and turns. Each time you start to believe that the HEA is in sight, Melissa's life is turned upside-down again. She stays strong; becoming a wonderful mother, a good leader, and a better daughter than her mother deserved. Her love for her husbands never wavers and time proves that their love for her is enduring as well. This is a very well done RH story. I give it one of Geoff's big smiley faces!

Kidnapped By Her Husbands Kidnapped By Her Husbands (Wings of  Artemis #1)  by Rebecca Royce  ****STAR REVIEW

Melissa Alexander wakes up to a world where women are scarce, men are numerous, and only the wealthy and powerful can afford wives. She wakes up in a rehabilitation center, alone, with no memory, and pregnant. She's told that she's been saved, her mind has been wiped, and she is being reprogrammed to be a good wife. She is taught to respect the Nobels and to hate and fear the Rebels. The next thing you know the center is under attack and she has been kidnapped by a rebel.
The rebels who call themselves nomads have truly rescued Melissa not kidnapped her. She is their wife and they all dearly love her. Melissa has been brainwashed, so she doesn't know what to think or who to trust. Plus, she's not the same ruthless woman they all knew. Now she's a frightened, lost, sweet, caring pregnant girl. She is much happier with who she is now but knows for the safety of her baby, she must get her memory back. She will do this out of love for her baby but is scared that it means the girl she is now will forever disappear. There's also physical danger to her personally and to her husbands that must be faced. This is not an easy world, but she has 6 brilliant, sexy men who will all die for her.
I really enjoyed this book. I love a RH and this one has so much more of a developed story than many. Their lives are much more difficult, relationships are more complex. It's really interesting to watch her fall for the guys she chose once again and to see their reactions to the changes within Melissa. Each character is nicely developed, their backstories are a wonderful touch, the relationships aren't forced, and the dangers are realistic making for an entertaining read. I will definitely read the next 2 sequels.

Deadly Truths (Kiss Her Goo... Deadly Truths (Kiss Her Goodbye #3)

             by Rebecca Royce   *****REVIEW
Everly's lived two lives. Her life before the Alliance, before her Letters. That Everly planned to make a difference in the world. She planned to be a social worker and help others. Everly now knows better. Common people are the equivalent of ants. They have no power, no control. World markets, world politics, even whether they live or die is all controlled by the Alliance. When Everly walked away from the Letters, she completed her degree, got a job off the record books, and made her plans to go off the grid. Her only plans are to disappear from the world. Then one of her Letters walked into a bar, back into her life. Once again, she is surrounded by the Alliance. This time she's playing by her own rules, not theirs.

Derrick, Trace, Warden, Judson, and Kade. D, T, W, J, K, and now E. The Letter's lives had been full of unchecked power, wealth, and privilege. Now they have the missing pieces; loyalty and love. They were fighting for control of the Alliance, but not for the right reason. They thought they had everything but once they met her they understood the emptiness of their world. Everly gave them a life worth fighting for.

I'll be honest. This is the perfect conclusion for the Letters. They got their version of forever. A little dark and twisted, as it had to be. I'm so glad their characters never lost themselves along the way. They remained brilliant, crazy, and deadly. By the end, they fully embraced their world and their roles in it. I'm happy for them. I'm sad for me. I will have a hard time letting go of these characters. They are safe sociopaths. Their narcissism expanded to include their family and they lived by the rules they created. Rebecca allowed me as a reader to join in this world where enemies are destroyed, a safe luxurious bubble exists, and love is fully explored. I loved it. It was a dark, ugly journey but their final destination was worth it. D, T, W, J, K, and E got their HEA.

Dark Truths (Kiss Her Goodb... Dark Truths (Kiss Her Goodbye #2)

              by Rebecca Royce   *****REVIEW
Once she was Everly Marrs, then The Letters D, W, J, K, and T kidnapped her as leverage against her father. She became a pawn of the Alliance. As unusual as her circumstances were, she found moments of true happiness with her captors. Then she was kidnapped from her kidnappers as a way to punish them. Tortured mentally and physically for six months until there was barely any Everly left. She became an ant. Rescued, Everly still exists in the basement not knowing who she can trust, never feeling safe. The Alliance is now at war with itself and Everly is square in the middle. She needs to figure out quickly who she is and how to survive.

Dark perfection. Twisted beauty. Every wrong in this book is so right. The damage humans can do to one another is captured perfectly. The broken souls are on full display. Their scars are bared, truths revealed. Anger, revenge, pain, regret, remorse, overwhelming fear, and pain. But even the damaged can love. And it can be passionate, sweet, scary, even hopeful. But can it survive in the light of day? I was enthralled with each word on each page in this book and when it ended I was completely sated. It was beyond satisfying, yet I can't wait for more. It ends with the completion of one part of the story and opens up a new one. What will the future bring? How do they come back from the end? I trust in the genius of Rebecca Royce's writing and trust her that there will be light after the dark.

Hard Truths: A Contemporary... Hard Truths:  (Kiss Her Goodbye Book 1)

              by Rebecca Royce   *****REVIEW
The world that we know is an illusion. Puppets, chess pieces, ants, normal people. Regular people don't matter, they have no say, no control. What they believe either doesn't matter or isn't true. Everly's eyes have been opened. She now knows. One day she's in school studying to become a social worker, sleeping with random guys, getting by. The next she wakes up a prisoner on an island, held as leverage in a deadly fight for power. The Alliance. Deadly men who go by letters D, W, J, K, and T quickly strip her of any and every belief that she has ever held about her family, her life, her world. Nothing is sugarcoated, especially her well-being. If she isn't useful, if she's too much of a bother, she's expendable. She should be terrified. And she is. But she also feels more alive, more vital than ever before. And heaven help her, she's never been more attracted to a man, more specifically men, in her entire life. This whole experience has revealed a dark, twisted part of herself that may lead her down a path of total destruction.
Hard truths is a sensational dark RH by one of the most talented authors in the genre. This is a departure from her normal writing. Yes, the lead female is a strong, impressive lady and she promises an HEA but the journey to forever will be a twisted, ugly path. I loved it and gladly embrace this more naughty side of Ms. Royce. This book has the exact amount of darkness and kink to enthrall me but never crosses the line. Everly is destroyed in the best possible ways. And she's always willing. She's a victim of her circumstances but never a victim. She's brilliant, feisty, owns her sexuality, maybe too critical of her looks, but confident. Her decisions may not always be the best and may upset some readers but she owns them. I love this. The letters are not your typical Alpha males. We don't have the guy who works on cars, the cook, the brooding one, the oversized teddy bear or the tech geek. Sure, the guys can cover all of these characteristics or skills but there's nothing as simplistic about the letters. There's no warm and fuzzy, no soft, loving words or tender glances and soft touches. These men don't care. They want. They demand. They expect. The ruin lives, destroy the path to get to their destination. They don't even call each other friends. It's interesting to me that as brilliant as each man is, they maybe overestimate their cruelty. Yes, they are willing to kill, kidnap, steal. Possibly they are every bit as cruel as they claim and Everly is only a toy. But as cold, power-hungry, and savage as they are at times, they each have moments of vulnerability and touches of humanity. I believe Everly is their one weakness, their saving grace. She has the power to soothe their inner beast, reach the broken soul, calm the psychopath if only they are brave enough to be the men not only the letters.
This storyline is well-thought out and executed. The background information is nicely detailed. It's an intelligent read which I find very sexy. The constant action, danger, suspense, and locale changes keep the reader on edge. The sexual tension is delicious. The ending is stunning. I had an audible gasp and literally reached out to the author wanting a release date for the next book. Truly, I will be haunted by these characters until the story continues.

Undeniable: A Reverse Harem...Undeniable:(Reverse Harem Story Book 3               by
Rebecca Royce   *****REVIEW

Giovanna Amsel. Maven Stone. Chance Montgomery. Banyan Iburgess. An unconventional love story, one not everyone will understand or accept and that's fine. Other's opinions don't matter when you have found love so beautiful, so right; love that makes you a better, stronger person; love that completes your world in ways you could never have imagined.
Giovanna is halfway around the world from her guys, being ignored by her parents, miserable, and hurting. When an unexpected emergency reunites the four, it's clear that they are finished playing by the rules of their parents. They know what they have together and they are determined that they will live by their own rules for their own happiness. Their happily ever after is in sight but with these four, it's never simple. There are still pasts to be dealt with before the future is assured. Abusive parents, a firebug roommate, personal baggage. It's emotional, poignant, precious. I can't do justice to the feelings that this book evoked from me. I loved these characters from the moment Maven first yelled Library. I immediately loved Giovanna for the bruised soul that she was. It soon became clear that the boys were bruised as well, they just hid their scars better most of the time. Together they started healing. I fell in love with all four of these characters even more in this book. They created a beautiful family together. Each character found themselves because the love of the others allowed them to. Together they are stronger, better, happier.

This is the ultimate love story. It's everything I want from the final book in a series; all storyline issues are resolved and the future is set up for a forever-together happiness. The overall sweetness of the relationships, the love shared, the words expressed, especially by Banyan left me delighted. I have a book afterglow. I couldn't ask for more, HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that I haven't already. A follow-up novella, please. I'm not ready to say goodbye yet.

Unexpected Unexpected (Reverse Harem Story #2)

                        by Rebecca Royce     *****REVIEW
Everything ends. Holidays. Vacations. Relationships? Giovanna is back in her dorm. Maven, Chance, and Banyan are back at the frat house. The guys had promised Giovanna that it wasn't over, that nothing would change. They all want to be with her for as long as it lasts. But one step into their fraternity house, one minute of the crowd, the smell, the noise, and Giovanna knows that she has no place in their real-life world. The rumors start immediately and as much as she would like to ignore the mean girls, Giovanna has never wanted to stand out. She never wanted to attract attention. Add in the fact that there's still an arsonist on the loose, she's failing math and possibly chemistry, and her parents have completely disappeared leaving her broke and it's all too much for Giovanna. Even her dorm room and her bestie no longer feel normal. The only time she can be herself is at her new job at a consignment shop with two owners that quickly become family or when she's with one or more of her guys. Until they aren't just her guys any longer. Everything ends. Maybe Giovanna is meant to be alone even as the world burns around her.
Unexpected was unexpected (a little). I was hopeful but to be honest I was scared. I LOVED Unconventional but it wasn't reality. A Holiday escape coming on the heels of a near-tragedy. The four were set up for a period of bliss. Now they are back to normalcy; classes, peers, responsibilities. It's easy to forget the world for a Holiday but when faced with jealous catty girls, failing grades, absentee parents, money issues, a creepy roommate, and countless other pressures a normal relationship gets tested. This relationship is anything but normal! However, Giovanna, Maven, Chance, and Banyan are anything but normal themselves. It's said that another person can't make you whole. That's true but doesn't say everything. To be happy a person's self must be whole but another can compliment them so that they become more, become more complete. They are not your other half or in this case your other fourth. They make you more you, a better, stronger version; just as you do them. That's what Giovanna and her guys have discovered. Heart. Home. The emotions these four experience, this part of their journey moved me to tears. It's so heartfelt. The emotions are so real, so raw. The loneliness, pain, and anguish wrecked me. The vulnerability shown rocked me to the core. And this isn't just Giovanna. Each of the guys bares their weaknesses and tender sides too. That's what makes this RH so unique and so special. Each and every person in this relationship is battling their own hurts. Each is finding their own strengths. Each is finding their way to forever. It's a beautifully, bumpy love story.
This isn't only a love story, however. There's a mystery to be solved and a family to locate. The fires kept everything and everyone on edge. I felt like the arsonist was hinted at early on. That didn't make it any less scary. In fact, the suspense built and the fear surrounding the fires grew. The truth was much more worrisome, much scarier than I imagined. The fact that it's not over keeps the tension high. Giovanna's family is simply disgusting. Poison darts would be wasted on them. There have never been two people less suited to be parents. They are not worthy. I am so beyond frustrated with them. I can only hope for karma to ruin their reputations in academia and that they have to settle among average citizens in obscurity for the remainder of their lives. Giovanna can claim Connie and Kay (the shop owners) as her adopted parents. They are an awesome addition to her life.
I have rambled on much longer than my regular reviews but I know that there is no way I can capture how much I loved this book in a simple review. The feelings it evoked left me feeling sated, overly emotional, a little vulnerable myself. And so, so happy. I have always been open and honest about my love for Rebecca Royce. Her creativity seems endless. Her female characters are unrivaled. Her stories are enthralling. This is my favorite story in all of her extraordinary series. It touched my heart. I selfishly want Undeniable now, hours after finishing this wonderful book. Even then, the final book may not be enough. I am in love with these characters. There may never be enough. And now again, I am reminded of the beginning, everything ends.

Unconventional: A Reverse H... Unconventional

                      by Rebecca Royce   *****REVIEW
Giovanna Amsel is a junior at Denberg University, a small liberal arts college. She's an English major and the editor of the Literary Magazine. She's a good student but has to work extra hard to stay on top because of her dyslexia. This has made her a disappointment in her parent's minds. As brilliant professors and researchers their expectations for their only child were exceedingly high and once Giovanna didn't meet them she became more of an afterthought to them. Dropped off at college she has been basically on her own ever since. While walking on a deserted campus during the Holiday break Giovanna was approached by a handsome frat guy calling her library girl. Maven Stone has entered her life bringing his two best friends/frat brothers Chance Montgomery and Banyan Iburgess with him. They open up Giovanna's eyes to the world that's been going on all around her, offering new experiences, fun, friendship and the possibility of even more.
Unconventional is part one of three-part contemporary RH story. The characters are all nicely developed. The guys are all almost too good to be true. Maven with his guilt, his fear of becoming his father. Chance with his easy laugh hiding his scars. Banyan so artistic used as a weapon instead of being loved freely. Each comes from a less than perfect family. Their families each have more money than morals or love. The guys have bonded due to their families and their desire to be better than there parents. They have set the bar high for themselves. They all desperately need to be loved. Giovanna may not come from the same income bracket, her dad may not have physically harmed her or committed a crime, but they have damaged her every bit as much as if they had. She has been made to feel less than since she was little. Her parents ignored her. She was made to feel unimportant and unworthy. Other girls grow up dreaming of Prince Charming and a HEA. Giovanna just doesn't want to feel unwanted. She never wants to be a burden to anyone. To be around three smart, handsome men who pay attention to her and seem to want her around is almost beyond her understanding. It's too good to be true. She knows that they will get tired of her soon enough and knows that she will be hurt and lonely again but for right now it's more than she could ask for. She makes my heart feel bruised. I want the guys to wrap her up in their arms and keep her heart safe. All four of these characters make me feel protective of them but especially Giovanna.
This story all takes place over a two week Holiday vacation. It ends as they head back to real life and arrive on campus. I actually screamed at the end. It's not a cliffhanger. One chapter closing, a new one beginning. This first one is the meeting, an idyllic interlude. We know from the prologue that big things are in the future. But what happens between now and then? Is it a natural transition or is there heartache ahead for Giovanna? Frats and pledges, studies, job interviews and graduate school. There are so many small daily obstacles to get between the guys and Giovanna. I'm not sure I want their Holiday to end but at the same time, I need the next part!

Future be Damned (Last Hope... Future be Damned (Last Hope #5)

               by Rebecca Royce   ****REVIEW
Aspen was once a Sister. She was meant to be sent down at the end of days. She was the ultimate hope against the Darkness. But an unintentional betrayal left her with nothing. Sent down to the world as a human, her guards forbidden to go near her, she fought, borrowed, and stole to help the Sisterhood from the outside. She never lost her memories like the other Sisters, so each day was a painful reminder of a life lost, of loves lost. Her Guards refused to accept that destiny and created a path that righted the wrongs, gave Aspen back power, and reunited the group. Now she has to find a way to forgive her loves for their past failings, figure out how to be the Sister she needs to be to defeat Darkness and save the world.
Future Be Damned is the conclusion to The Last Hope series. It's an emotional finale. Aspen's story broke my heart at times. I love her guards but the pain they caused her was almost too much. It was definitely unintentional but the results were still cruel. They paid dearly as well and proved themselves to her in the end. I did like how they all continued to fight the Darkness in their own ways until they were back on the right path. And I loved Aspen. Tiny but mighty.
The final battle against Darkness has arrived. This is Aspen's book but since the end has arrived, all of the Sisters play their crucial role. Anne, Teagan, Mika, Krystal, and even Daniella. Sister Superior, the Oracle, The Prophet, and the Warrior. Ms. Royce surprised me. The unexpected twists and turns in the final book made for an entertaining ending. I loved how it all played out and I loved getting to catch up with all of the Sisters at once. This series was the ultimate in female empowerment. Women who were willing to go against tradition, show compassion, make sacrifices, and fight for their love, each other, and the world. Darkness to Light. Well done!

Compassion Be Damned (Last Hope, #4) Compassion Be Damned (Last Hope #4)

                       by Rebecca Royce   ****REVIEW
The Darkness chose Krystal. The Darkness that has lived inside Sister Katherine for years needs a new host and it wants Krystal. When Krystal manages to somehow block it from possessing her, Katherine locks her in a room, isolating her from the rest of the sisters, the world for years. Each night she battles the Darkness. When a sudden, unexpected rescue releases Krystal she is given directions to get to the train and make her way to Anne's Convent. Along the way, she encounters Brother Raven and five former guards of Sister Katherine. Controlled by Katherine, the five, Titus, Paden, Zeke, Ryland, and Jett committed wrongful acts and now feel the need for atonement. They see the chance for redemption with Krystal. She is their light, their hope, and their chance at love. Krystal, who has never had the powers of a normal Sister, but can heal and bring rebirth instead, feels a strong attachment to the men as well. Unfortunately, her role as a sister will end any chance they have to be together even as she saves the world.
Compassion Be Damned is the continuing story of the end of times. A time when demons walk freely, possessing people, destroying the earth. Krystal is the antidote in a way different from the other Sisters. Her story is unlike their's in many ways. Elves, an elephant-headed man, a magical horse, Bob, happy eggs. This book is wonderful. This story is more emotional than the others and held me spellbound from beginning to end. Rebecca took Krystal's story in directions I could have never imagined. Five guards riddled with guilt and remorse; who want to be the men they were meant to be. A woman who can't see her own worth but is utterly amazing. A bond between the six that transcends land and sky, before and now, life, and death. It's a fantastic story.
The end is clearly near. This series has been building to the ultimate battle; winner takes earth. This book moved us much closer to that final. The players are all in place now. Everyone finally knows and understands their role. Each Sister is so special in her own way and each demonstrates how precious love in this world is. Together, with their guards they are formidable. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Destiny Be Damned Destiny Be Damned (Last Hope #3)

                      by Rebecca Royce  ****REVIEW
Mika spends her days as a Sister without guards. Like the others, she was raised in the sisterhood, but she was never in love with her guards, never even friendly with them. After standing up to Sister Superior, she was cursed, only to awaken at the new Sisterhood with no memory as to how she got there and trapped in the dark until Teagan released her. Now she assists where she can. While the other Sisters are away Mika is in charge of the house's repairs. Five contractors, Neil, Wayne, Gordon, Ren, and Lennon show up excited about working for the Sister's, but it's clear that Destiny has much more planned for these five and Mika. They aren't trained guards, yet they act instinctively when Mika is challenged by multiple demons. There is an obvious attraction between the men and Mika, yet no one will accept what should be. The men are determined to keep traveling, Mika is convinced that she is defective and will never find her guards or love.
This is my favorite of the Last Hope Books to date. Mika is fierce. Once she decides to take control, decides that she has possibilities, not a destiny, she is a force to be reckoned with. Once her men wake up, they are everything guards should be. This book went in directions I could have never predicted. We found out the history of the demon apocalypse; we know more about Bob, Sister Superior, and the Darkness. We understand the Sisters and their Guards and their roles even better. Mika saw, she spoke. Words have power, things are changing, and the world has a better chance than before.
No one creates female characters better than Rebecca Royce. This group of women has power, compassion, and love. They exist within a circle of love from their guards and they support one another. They will save the world. I can't wait to read more about it!

Past Be Damned Past Be Damned (Last Hope #2)

                     by Rebecca Royce   ****STAR REVIEW
Past Be Damned returns the reader to the Last Hope series. It's the end of days and the last line of defense to save humanity are the sisters who have the ability to fight the demons on earth. This story focuses on Teagan. After being torn away from the Sisterhood and her guards Teagan spent 5 horrifying years in the mines. Now at the new Sisterhood with Anne and Daniella, she can no longer handle her pain and asks for a memory wipe. She believes that she can still contribute as a human, but that if she continues trying to live with her pain, the darkness will overcome her. One year later after hearing that she was still alive her guards Thaddeus, Aidan, Noah, Eric, and Brody rush to the sisterhood. They are back with their sister, but it's not the reunion they expected.
This is a wonderful series, so well written. The story is original and multi-layered. The characters are all fully developed; beautifully flawed and likable. Teagan is so giving, generous, selfless, and strong, but so full of doubt. Thaddeus is the perfect leader, Aidan is so courageous, Noah is so loving, Eric is so intelligent, and Brody is so open. These 6 are strong individually, but together they are a force.
After the years of separation, there are major issues that need to be resolved both as individuals and as a group. There is pain; feelings of betrayal, hurt, and anger. Teagan believes that she is broken and the team was never meant to be. The guys are determined to prove she's wrong, how much they love her, and that they are meant to be together. Their love and passion for Teagan have only grown stronger and they are not letting her go again. Even though their personal lives are full of uncertainty, there are demons to fight, people to save, sisters to help, and a dark Sister Superior to stop. Katrina has continued her reign of terror and is a formidable opponent. Teagan is pretty amazing herself though and destiny has chosen her for an important role.
This story was crammed full of action and new information; very exciting. There's love, wonder, forgiveness, and hope. I love how even in this dangerous, dark world there are moments of tenderness. The sisters aren't only surviving, they are embracing life and love. Their light grows stronger with love. The lines were drawn in the first book and the ultimate battle for earth is drawing closer. I can't wait for the next book; Sisters and their Guards, good versus evil; it's an addictive series!

Tradition Be Damned Tradition Be Damned (Last Hope #1)

                      by Rebecca Royce    ****STAR REVIEW
Fantastic! Rebecca Royce never disappoints and this book is no exception. Tradition Be Damned is sensational. It's the end of days. Demons roam the earth, destroying, possessing. Anne was taken at birth as a gifted daughter to be one of the Sisterhood, the Order that fights demons. Each Sister lives a strict life of rules, remaining covered head to toe, never allowed freedom, and protected by a group of 5 guards. These guards pledge their lives for their Sister, but don't speak to them unnecessarily or even see their faces, although they do provide sexual release if called upon. It's a lonely, grueling existence for the Sister if she survives. Anne is the strongest of the sisters, but she is not like the others. She's the "weird one". She doesn't use her guards for sex, she worries for their safety, she's kind. She's also convinced that her guards hate her. She's so wrong! Her guards, Bryant, Mason, Garrett, Kieran and Milo adore her. They want nothing more than her safety and happiness.
Anne is such a complex character. She holds such power and strength, yet she doesn't know her own worth. She believes herself to be ugly and an embarrassment. She is so full of light, kindness, and love, but so insecure, so easily hurt. She's so easy to love. The guards were all great characters, but I would have liked a little more time with each. Once Anne started breaking tradition and disobeying the set Sister rules, she made a point to find out each guard's background and future dreams. This was good, but more individual time would have been even better.
This is a delightful, engrossing story. Fast-paced and well-written. It's clever and original. There's suspense and danger, lies and betrayals, passion, affection and deep love, sadness, anger, and finally hope. It's a read-all-night kind of book. I can't recommend it enough. If you enjoy Reverse Harems, if you enjoy the Supernatural, this is the book for you. So, so good! I look forward to the next book in the Last Hope series.
